Join the queer student association Spotlight on Valentine's day to celebrate queer love in all of its dimensions: romantic, platonic and familial, contemporary and historical, here and across the world.

Beyond enjoying a regular social event (and delicious vegan food), you can:

Learn more about queer history worldwide through an educational exhibition prepared by Spotlight members;

Make DIY Valentine's cards for your loved ones (or use ready-made designs created by Spotlight artists);

Meet new people through speed-friending (like speed-dating, but for friends!) at 19:30!

Don't get discouraged by the long runtime—you can stay for the whole night, come in at the beginning for an hour and then run off to your Valentine's date, or come in at the end after a long day of other adventures. The goal is to be flexible!

Join us for a potluck iftar hosted by SVMUSA at CREA.

Attendees are invited to bring a halal dish from their own culture, which serves as their entry ticket. To help us coordinate the food, all participants must register their dishes in advance.

The evening includes a lecture titled “Building Character Through Self-Discipline”, reflecting on lessons from the life of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and how they inspire personal and spiritual growth.

Maghrib and taraweeh prayers are included.

This event is held in English and is a social iftar focused on community, reflection, and shared traditions.

svMUSA Potluck: Iftar Around the World

Meet Atul Khatri, a middle-aged ex-CEO -tuned-comedian who quit his job in 2016 and now makes a living making people laugh harder than they ever have. Please watch his comedy special on Netflix as part of “Comedians of the World” which featured the globe’s top 47 comedians.
Bringing his 55+ year old perspective, Atul starts this brand new show with how he is grateful to his audiences who buy tickets and come out to support live comedy. Atul then talks about how he lost 5 of his best friends who migrated to the USA after graduation and their stories whenever they visit India. He then talks about his experiences of how the USA has turned from the land of opportunities to the land of gratuities. His fun set includes his relationship with his 4-year-old grandson, his Indie dog Mr Butter Khatri. So, after 30+ years of marriage and surviving 2 children and 1 grand-child, Atul can proudly proclaim that he is “Well-Trained”.

SIB-Amsterdam’s committee of intellectual activities invites you to the third talk in our series:

🌍 7 continents, 7 talks to explain the world: a panel discussion of people with intimate professional knowledge of the country, introducing you to the conflict in Sudan, how it may develop, the challenges it poses and what we could possibly do from here in the Netherlands.
