The Cult is a British rock band, formed in 1983 in Bradford, Northern England. The band is formed by singer Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy, and broke through in Europe in the mid-80s with their distinctive sound, full of influences from post-punk and gothic. Hits like 'She Sells Sanctuary' and 'Fire Woman' can be heard on their much-praised debut album 'Dreamtime' from 1984 and follow-up 'Love' from 1985. In 1987, The Cult achieved major success in the United States with their third album 'Electric', featuring a more hard rock-oriented sound. After being apart a few times over the past thirty years and then coming back together, the tireless band released the 2022 album 'Under the Midnight Sun', their eleventh studio album.
