About

Come and experience New Adventures! On Friday 3rd of May and Saturday 4th of May, Constantin Trommlitz and Thais di Marco & Diego Oliveira will share the outcome of their New Adventures residency at ICK Dans Amsterdam | Space for Dance Art. Each evening combines both works and is followed by an after talk, creating space for sharing experiences between the audience and the artists. Both artists research themes which are urgent to them and how these can be transformed into dance. While Constantin explores how to deepen the expression of pain through movement, Thais and Diego dive into the military tactic called swarming as a starting point for dance. After the performance there will be space for dialogue during an aftertalk. Will we see you there? New Adventures is a residency program for emerging dance makers who want to deepen their creative practice. This year, four makers/collectives have been selected out of an open call. They get the chance to work on their artistic research and development for four weeks in the studios, ending in two open presentations. Two makers work parallel to each other during the residency, exchanging and sharing their visions and working methods, resulting in a fruitful artistic cross-pollination between the makers and ICK. The artists receive artistic, production and financial support from ICK Dans Amsterdam. Constantin Trommlitz Constantin Trommlitz (He/Him) (1996, Frankfurt am Main) is a dancer, choreographer, and filmmaker based in Amsterdam. His background in movement is in Breaking, an art form he cites as the prime influence on his work. In his choreographic work, he enjoys merging highly acrobatic elements of Breaking with a contemporary approach to process and to embody real emotions in himself and other performers. Constantin is investigating the expression of pain - how can one change the narrative of pain from a limitation to a motor for self-expression and virtuous movement? During his New Adventures residency Constantin addresses how this question can lead to a process of healing, and how our own sensations of pain can provide inspiration and urgency to be transformed into movement. Thais di Marco & Diego Oliveira Thais Di Marco (They/Them) is a choreographer and director, born in a traditional Candomblé community in Brazil, currently based in Amsterdam. Thais graduated from DAS Choreography in 2018 and has worked in the intersection between social movements and art, studying and collaborating with social work, health institutions, prison systems, and rural and indigenous communities in dance classes and projects. Diego Oliveira (He/Him) is a movement researcher, choreographer and dance teacher from Parana, Brazil, based in Amsterdam. Diego is a self-taught street dancer who is deeply committed to his roots and ancestry. He uses dance as a powerful tool to heal, reclaim identity and increase self-awareness. During their residency, Thais and Diego study swarming as a movement principle. Swarming is a term used in contemporary warfare to describe military tactics of groups confronting opponents that hold a much bigger disproportionate force. They aim to create a swarming dance for those who will live through moving in front of enemies they can't defeat. Want to know more?
