About

This year, the Diversity and Inclusion Circle is once again committed to reflecting on Keti Koti, an important moment of remembrance and celebration. Come join us to reflect together on the significance of this day, to understand the current impact of our history of slavery, and to strive for an inclusive society. Discover what activities we have planned and join us in honoring and acknowledging the legacy of Keti Koti. From June 24th to 28th 2024, the Keti Koti pop-up Museum will open its doors in the Theatrium. Step inside and discover a wealth of (historical) information, publications, podcasts, and films, shedding light not only on the story of Keti Koti but also on the impact of colonialism in the present. Additionally, Saghar Afzalnia, a talented student from BEAR, will present an impressive multimedia installation highlighting the theme of inclusion. On June 28th 2024, join us for the pinnacle of our commemoration and celebration! In collaboration with Music Theatre, we invite you to a formal Keti Koti gathering from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Attend the following: - An engaging and inspiring lecture by Saundra Williams (former artistic director of AHK & program maker at Bijlmer Parktheater and community builder). - A musical tour through the academy by students of the Conservatorium. - Engaging table discussions during a traditional Heri Heri lunch. (for those who signed up via e-mail with Nadia) - In the afternoon, delve deeper into the theme with a workshop on storytelling from the Afro diaspora, led by Luku Xam. Locations and a final time-table will follow soon! Don't miss this opportunity to be part of this moment. It is important for you too to attend and learn from the commemoration and celebration of Keti Koti, as it offers us the chance to understand the contemporary impact of our history of slavery, honor our past, and strive for an inclusive and just society. Let's join together in respectfully commemorating and acknowledging the legacy of our colonial past! Hope to see some of you there! - Nadia Bouamra, Diversity and Inclusion manager.
