Every year on the second weekend of December, Molen de Ster transforms into the coziest Christmas market in Utrecht. With over 45 stalls packed with unique, local finds, it’s the perfect spot to score original holiday gifts. Think: handmade, heartwarming, and seriously fun to give.

For two days straight, soak up the festive vibes with live music, mulled wine, tasty winter snacks, and all the gezelligheid you could wish for—right in the heart of this one-of-a-kind location.

Local makers
Each year, we handpick the very best local creators to bring you a curated mix of beautiful, gift-worthy goods. Whether you’re shopping for your best friend, your little cousin, or just yourself, you’ll find something special.  
Expect unique jewelry, handmade kids’ clothes and toys, cool tees, prints, Christmas cards, home decor, and lots more.

Bonus: On Sunday, the market extends indoors with even more stalls to explore.  
Pro tip: Different makers are there each day—so yes, coming both days is totally worth it.

Food & drinks
Fuel your shopping spree with winter treats and festive drinks. Grab a steaming cup of mulled wine or hot chocolate (with whipped cream, obviously) and enjoy mini Dutch pancakes (poffertjes), hearty pea soup, and other cold-weather comfort food.

Live Music
What’s a Christmas market without music? We’ve got live performances lined up throughout the weekend to turn the festive atmosphere up a notch.

Tours
On Saturday, you can join a free guided tour of the mill all day long. Climb up with one of our guides and discover how we still saw wood using wind power. Don’t miss the view from the second floor—perfect for snapping a pic of the twinkling market below.

Every first Sunday of the month Tim Dawn programs two fellow musicians for the Sawdust Sessions in the sawmill of Molen de Ster. This last edition features musical talents Philine and Joe Buck.

Philine is a singer with international allure, who transforms her vivid fantasies and emotions into magical melodies. With her debut EP ‘So sick of myself’ she already collected more than half a million streams and was played on major Dutch radio stations. Her new EP ‘The side effects of living in a fantasy’, mixed by Matt Wiggins (Adele, Florence + The Machine, Lorde), shows her growth as an artist.

Joe Buck is a pure singer who writes pop songs with a lot of honesty and emotion, influenced by folk and country music. In 2017 he graduated from the Rock Academy in Tilburg and immediately afterwards Joe signed his first deal with Ilse DeLange. Shortly after that he scored his first hit with ‘The Way You Take Time’ which later became a gold record. After a period out of the spotlight, Joe Buck made an impressive comeback in 2024 with the single ‘weed & videogames’, in which he sings about a dark period in his life.

For the 5th time we are organizing a beautiful Wood Market at Molen de Ster!

This cozy market has stalls full of only wooden products. Beautiful jewelry, interior products, works of art and much more. Woodworking demonstrations are given and there are fun children’s activities. Guided tours are given in the mill and you get a behind-the-scenes look at the millers.

At the Molencafé you can enjoy delicious food and drinks. And we bake fresh poffertjes (mini Dutch pancakes).

Melle is an authentic and unpolished singer and multi-instrumentalist with an ever-growing collection of instruments. In his songs he highlights both the joys and challenges of relationships and shows his views on the problems of contemporary society, such as capitalism and inequality.

Will Knox is a born storyteller, bringing worlds to life with a few words and chords. As a songwriter and producer, he has won many awards and been involved in songs with more than a billion streams.

On Easter Monday, you’re invited to take a seat at your reserved table in the Zagerij for a fully plant-based high tea. We’ll be serving a varied selection of homemade sweet and savoury treats, accompanied by unlimited tea – with plenty of flavours to choose from.

Feeling festive? Add a glass of organic prosecco to your tea. Prefer something else? You’re welcome to order other drinks during the high tea.

There’s also a craft table to keep the kids entertained.

For the children there is a craft table where they can get creative. And of course there will be an Easter egg hunt in the courtyard!

In the Sawmill, the cutest second-hand toys, the softest cuddly toys and other pretty goodies will be sold by children aged 7 to 12. Come browse among the merchandise this Sunday and find the cutest items.

The Mill Café will, of course, be open where mum and dad can enjoy a coffee while the children sell.

Every first Sunday of the month Tim Dawn programs two fellow musicians for the Sawdust Sessions in the sawmill of Molen de Ster. For the fourth edition Áslaug & Melanie Ryan will show their the musical talents.

Áslaug: Unique Icelandic-Utrecht alt-pop singer with recognizable lyrics that uses dynamic drums, melancholic melodies, layered synths and gritty earcandy. In 2025, Áslaug is on the eve of the release of her very first album Catharsis, in which Áslaug wants to remind listeners of the power of showing your vulnerable sides.

Melanie Ryan: is an infectious dream chaser who wants to bring her interwoven mix of pop, country and folk with the real Nashville-style storytelling to a wider audience. In 2024 she participated in the pop round and was the opening act for the American country pop star Dasha.

Martin Jasper

Every first Sunday of the month Tim Dawn programs two fellow musicians for the Sawdust Sessions in the sawmill of Molen de Ster. During this second edition Maryn Charlie & Martin Jasper will be on stage.

Maryn Charlie is an indie/alt-pop singer-songwriter who expresses the inner struggles of Gen Z in an infectious and very personal way. Her debut EP ‘Life is Overwhelming’ was released in 2022 and she has already shown on many stages that she feels at home with her audience. With her latest EP ‘Out of the Blue’ she toured the Netherlands last year as a support act for the band Rondé.

Nienke Leone sings what she is afraid to talk about and invites you to be best friends for one night. Her energetic show with infectious enthusiasm is an ode to honest music, inspired by artists like Typhoon and Julia Michaels. She writes her songs on her houseboat, where narrative, autobiographical lyrics and ultra-catchy choruses set the tone. Meanwhile, her first EP is out, she participated in Popronde 2024, where she played no fewer than 25 shows, and she provided support act for Krezip and Ruben Annink.
