Bring your self with your own voice, instruments, poetry or performance :)

There will be also delicious vegan food, first come, first served ;)

free entrance - all our events are on donation (bring cash) only with your donation we can keep our events free and at affordable prices

NieuwLand is wheelchair accessible but our toilets are not!! (we are working on it). The nearest public spaces with wheelchair accessible toilets are Tropen Museum (open Tuesday-Saturday 10-17H) and hotel The Manor (open 24/7).

Often, our groups and movements struggle with entrenched conflicts, power dynamics, and misdirected efforts, leading to a breakdown in enthusiasm and trust.

To achieve meaningful social impact and personal growth, we need to find ways to collaborate that align with our values and enhance both individual and collective agency.

This participatory workshop will explore such questions as:

- How can we foster more meaningful connections and understanding in discussions about critical global or personal issues, even when there is disagreement?

- How can we make our collaborative efforts truly expressive of our values?

- How can collaboration enhance our personal and collective agency?

Community Circle: Distinguishing Opposing Ideas from Opposing People

Maurizio and Zaya Benazzo's documentary is a profound and emotional exploration of the Palestinian experience under Israeli occupation, depicting their struggles through the lens of loss, trauma, and the fight for justice. The film highlights the personal stories of individuals, like Palestinian journalist and therapist Ashira Darwish, activist Ahed Tamimi, and Israeli journalist Amira Hass, as well as Dr. Gabor Maté's trauma-healing work with women who endured torture in Israeli prisons. Through their experiences, the film uncovers the deep scars left by the confiscation of ancestral land, expulsions, imprisonment, home demolitions, and the denial of basic human rights.

However, despite the harsh realities and systemic oppression depicted, the film also reveals a powerful sense of resilience and enduring hope among the Palestinian people.

The screening will be followed by a panel centering the Palestinian resistance.

Alles wat er op dit moment in de wereld gebeurt, raakt ons allemaal op verschillende manieren. Juist nu is het nodig dat we werken aan individuele en daarmee ook aan collectieve heling.

Wil jij onderzoeken hoe belemmeringen die jij op dit moment ervaart verbonden zijn met jouw persoonlijke verhaal? Op 10 augustus creëren we hiervoor een veilige ruimte voor BIPOC om dit samen te verkennen.

Ons lichaam herinnert zich niet alleen wonden die wij zelf opliepen door bijvoorbeeld onderdrukking en uitsluiting, het heeft ook de wonden van onze voorouders opgeslagen. In wat er speelt in de wereld om ons heen, stuiten we op triggers voor woede, angst en verdriet. Om hiermee om te gaan, vallen we terug op onze overlevingsstrategieën.

Door middel van systemische oefeningen, rituelen, opstellingen en beweging kunnen we jouw overlevingsstrategieën en de dynamieken waarin jij vastloopt onderzoeken. Je kijkt naar jouw schaduwkanten en ervaart wat je nodig hebt om dichter bij jezelf te komen.
Stap voor stap kunnen wij zo ons volle potentieel in de wereld zetten en bijdragen aan meer verbinding.

Ons Hele Zelf In De Wereld

This event is part of the counter-narratives study circle on anti-imperialist and anti-capitalist thinking, which meets roughly once a month. At this session of counter-narratives we will discuss two works by two authors covering the environmental dimension of the imperialist war on Palestine: environmental warfare, ecocide and fossil imperialism.

(1) The book Environmental Warfare in Gaza: Colonial Violence and New Landscapes of Resistance by Shourideh C. Molavi focuses on another stage of Israeli warfare, namely environmental and chemical warfare that has destroyed swathes of lush arable land, greenhouses and vegetation, further debilitating Palestinian livelihoods, and enabling better Israeli military targeting of Palestinian communities. An extract from the foreword by Eyal Weizman:
"From the point of view of colonial history, climate transformation is not the accidental and indirect consequence of conflict; the environment is not the collateral damage of history, but a tool in its arsenal of transformations, a form of government over land, peoples and the relation between them – one of the means by which colonial racism is enacted, land is grabbed, siege lines fortified and violence perpetuated."
Do also take a look at the Forensic Architecture report Israel's Ecocide in Gaza: 2023-2024 that focuses on the ongoing destruction.

(2) The article The Destruction of Palestine Is the Destruction of the Earth by Andreas Malm is a long-term analysis of Palestine's subjugation to fossil empire, in which he demonstrates that the forces responsible for the destruction of Gaza are the same as those responsible for the climate catastrophe.

Everyone attending should read the works beforehand, but it's OK if you don't manage to finish in time! The discussion will be open and informal – without presentations or guidance, as we're all equally in the process of learning. NOTE: There will be a donation jar and some refreshments available (cash or pin). After the successful poetry nights of previous years, we are happy to once again organize such an event! This time, it will be a night to inspire each other with words of resistance!

The evening will kick off with a piece written and performed by spoken word artist Eman, she will share with us her beautiful words of courage and strength!  

Afterwards there will be an open mic and everybody will be able to share a poem. This can consist of something you’ve written yourself, or a quote from someone else. Of course, you can also just come, listen and enjoy other attendees’ contributions.  
At the end we will have some music and drinks.  

Comrades, come gather your favourite poems and join us for an evening of inspiration, camaraderie and a recharging of the mind!  

Language / Taal: English, but Dutch contributions are also welcome! / Engels, maar Nederlandse bijdragen zijn ook erg welkom!
