Dubbel feest vanavond! Voor Trijntje Oosterhuis is Stevie Wonder de inspiratiebron geweest om zangeres te worden. Trijntje zag Stevie Wonder voor het eerst live op een festival in Rotterdam. De destijds pas 19-jarige Amsterdamse stond met haar vriendinnen helemaal vooraan. Na het indrukwekkende optreden ontmoette Trijntje één van de backingvocalisten van Stevie Wonder. Hij vroeg Trijntje of ze Stevie Wonder misschien wilde ontmoeten en voor ze het wist, schudde ze de hand van haar muzikale held. Tot haar nog grotere verbazing vroeg Stevie haar om samen met hem te zingen in zijn kleedkamer. Een indrukwekkende en levensbepalende ervaring voor Trijntje Oosterhuis. Na het stoppen van de succesformatie Total Touch in 1999 putte Trijntje inspiratie uit Songs in the Key of Life voor haar eerste Stevie Wonder-tour. Deze tour, die inmiddels 25 jaar geleden plaatsvond, resulteerde in een van haar bestverkochte albums.



Het is moeilijk om de invloed van Stevie Wonder op de popmuziek te overschatten. Als kind werd zijn muzikaliteit al erkend. Wanneer hij elf jaar oud is, tekent de blinde Stevie een contract bij het legendarische label Motown. Twee jaar later scoort hij met Fingertips zijn eerste hit. Omdat de jonge Stevie zelf de liedjes wil schrijven die hij speelt en zijn eigen artistieke visie wilt volgen, gaat hij de strijd aan met Motown. Die wint hij, waarna hij in rap tempo het ene meesterwerk na het andere uitbrengt: met Talking Book, Songs In The Key Of Life en Innervisions weet hij zowel sociaal-maatschappelijke thema’s aan te snijden, diverse genres te combineren als een wit publiek te interesseren voor zogenaamde ‘zwarte’ muziek. Daarmee inspireert hij artiesten tot op de dag van vandaag.
