ERIK FENS: DRIE TENTOONSTELLINGEN

De Amsterdamse kunstenaar Erik Fens (1949) is ooit de metaverzamelaar van Nederland genoemd: iemand die verzamelingen verzamelt en daar kunst van maakt. In de maand mei worden in Amsterdam gelijktijdig drie tentoonstellingen aan zijn werk gewijd. De Encyclopedie van de Wereld volgens Erik Fens zal worden tentoongesteld in Plantage Dok aan de Plantage Doklaan 8 in Amsterdam op 3, 4 en 5 mei a.s..

Op 3 mei wordt de tentoonstelling geopend met een openingswoord van schrijver Matthijs van Boxsel om 16.30, gevolgd; de openingstijden op de andere dagen zijn van 13.00 tot 17.00 uur.

Op zondag 5 mei is de finissage met om 17.00 uur een optreden van Luc Ex/The Philosopher met aansluitend eten van chef Lipsicus.

Van 3 mei t/m 26 zal tegelijkertijd een tentoonstelling getiteld De verzamelkunst van Erik Fens te zien zijn in Galerie Weerdruk aan het Entrepotdok 42A. Hier vindt op 26 mei ook de finissage van het Fens-project plaats.

Tenslotte: in het atrium van het dr. Sarphatihuis aan de Roetersstraat 2 worden foto's tentoongesteld die door Joost Pollmann zijn gemaakt in de vroegere woning van Erik Fens, waar al zijn verzamelingen waren uitgestald. Te zien van 3 t/m 26 mei, van 09.00 tot 17.00 uur op weekdagen.

Erik Fens verzamelde dingen die bepaald niet iedereen verzamelt: afgesleten zeepjes, eenzame handschoenen, foto's van staatshoofden die kinderen optillen, vorken die hij tot vogel omboog, kapotte autospiegels, ansichtkaarten met parkbankjes, sculpturen die hij maakte van gedroogde fruitschillen, bonbonnières met bladvormen, vlinders die uit pornobladen zijn geknipt, etcetera. Zijn magnum opus is De Encyclopedie van de Wereld volgens Erik Fens, een collectie van ongeveer 600 albums vol thematisch geordende knipsels en krantenkoppen, waaraan Fens dertig jaar heeft gewerkt. Zijn encyclopedie bevat een hallucinerende hoeveelheid visuele en verbale vondsten die hij heeft gehaald uit reclamefolders, kunsttijdschriften, kranten en ansichtkaartenalbums. Samen vormen zij een afspiegeling van ons collectieve bewustzijn, waarin talloze symbolen ronddrijven die te maken hebben met God, Eros, Dood, Flora, Fauna en andere kapitale begrippen.

Amsterdamse Broedplaats Plantage Dok bestaat 25 jaar! Dat willen we graag met lekker veel mensen vieren. Op zaterdag 16 december nodigen we je bij ons uit.
‘s Middags zijn alle ateliers open van 12:00 tot 17:00, rond 18:00 uur verzorgen onze in-house chefs van Taste Before You Waste een gezamenlijk diner en daarna gaat het feest vol aan met performances en muziek en de club is in de kelder. De entree is op donatie-basis.

25 Years of Plantage Dok!

Amsterdam’s oldest ‘broedplaats’ (creative living/working community) turns 25 this year! We invite as many people as possible to come celebrate with us on the 16th of December. All Dok-artists will open their ateliers from 12:00 til 17:00, at 18:00 there’s a dinner by our inhouse chefs from Taste Before You Waste and afterwards the mad festivities will kick off in Dokzaal and the Dokhuis Galerie with lots of live music and performances and a clubnight in the basement. Entrance is donation-based.

Gaia is een enthousiaste zanggroep van vijf vrouwen plus dirigent. Ze komen iedere week samen om mooie meerstemmige acapella-liedjes te zingen. Hun repertoire komt uit alle delen van de wereld en varieert van mooie ballads tot swingende up-tempo nummers. Veel hiervan zijn sspeciaal door hun dirigent voor hen gearrangeerd. In deze samenstelling zingen ze al ruim 10 jaar met veel plezier samen.

The Plantage Doklaan is a building located in the centre of Amsterdam that has served many functions in its life. It has been a church, a printing business and a school. In 1998 the building was squatted by a group of 10 people who themselves had much experience with squatting and collective awareness in Amsterdam. In 2000 the group bought and renovated the building with government assistance thus securing its future. The Plantage Dok is very much a collective project. It is a building that is run by the people who work there along lines of cooperation and equality. Everybody involved share the responsibility and are encouraged to bring forth their own initiatives. These days some 30 people are present in the building. They are concerned in many fields of activity. There are architects, visual artists, actors, political activists, crafts people, musicians and designers.
The (semi) public facilities of the building are a large hall The Dokzaal, a café and gallery space The Dokhuis Gallery and an artist in residence The Dokhuis Guest Studio. The Dokzaal is a communal space for activities inside the building and is also used by outside organizations for various cultural activities. The café/gallery is used for exhibitions and performances. See agenda for upcoming events.
