Fool Circle Pit met Apeshit + OATS + BB & The Binkie Boys

Thema-avond georganiseerd door Resistor i.s.m. de Commissie Drik van Eck van de Historische Vereniging Oud Leiden.

Historicus Yvonne Scholten zal vertellen over de Burgeroorlog, de Internationale Brigades en haar Leidse leden. Laura Lubbers zal vertellen over haar podcast-serie De Spanjestrijders en Ik, waarin ze mede op zoek gaat naar de drijfveren van wereldverbeteraars vandaag de dag.

Tussen 1936-1939 vocht de linkse, gekozen volksfrontregering van Spanje tegen fascisten onder leiding van Franco, die via een staatsgreep de macht wilden grijpen. De fascisten werden gesteund door Hitler en Mussolini, maar het volksfront kon rekenen op duizenden revolutionairen, die van over de hele wereld naar Spanje kwamen om zich te verzetten tegen het opkomende fascisme. Ook uit Nederland, onder andere uit Leiden.

Wie waren deze Leidse revolutionairen, die in Spanje vochten? Wat maakten zij in Spanje mee? En hoe worden zij tegenwoordig herdacht? Scholten en Lubbers zullen hier tijdens de thema-avond op ingaan en vragen van het publiek beantwoorden.

methods are audio de/construction, composition, sonic rituals, psycho-acoustics and performance. tools are voice, body, field recordings, electronics, objects and video.

dp has been sonically active for 37+ years, has appeared on nearly 300 releases both solo and with various bands/projects (Fear of God, Schimpfluch-Gruppe, Ohne, etc..) and has played over 700 concerts in 50+ countries.

Harsh noise with a focus on creating dense walls of noise and feedback by means of scrap metal, field recordings and crude textures recorded straight to tape.

Birthed

Gaia Heichal is an NL-based sound artist and an experienced sound engineer. They’re main focus is mainly around electronic instrument and interface design alongside site specific sound installations using multichannel sound systems. They perform under the alias ‘birthed’—maximalist ambience laced with black metal influences and shrouded texts. Unveiling fragility within the confines of the harsher edges of electronic music.

Death Mask

Heavy modulating synths explore territories beyond gender, beyond the human condition, and into the occult. With their words it tries to translate the gut feeling and the visceral we all know so well. That which has no words and is felt in our guts. Voicing its intense fears and death euphoria. To let it die to ones own body and ego.

Incirrina is a dark electronic/minimal synth duo based in Athens, Greece. Their first LP “8.15” - inspired by the poetry of the great romantic poet of the 18th century William Blake - was released in 2019 by “Geheimnis Records”. In 2022 they released their second LP, LIP LEAD SCREAM. We are very happy they will play Leiden on their European tour!

Cymbaline is is a new wave formation from the Netherlands.

Their music draws heavily on the post-punk era of the late ‘70s-early ‘80s. Dark and brooding, but a very fresh sound at the same time.

On the 25th and 26th of may Charnel Ground returns to Resistor in Leiden, Netherlands for the 3rd edition of Crude Transmissions with another stacked line up! With 15 projects coming over from the United Kingdom, Australia, Portugal, Germany, Belgium, Poland, United States and the Netherlands. This year also marks the first time that there will be a 2 day program. Next to saturday's line up at Resistor there's also an exhibition at the Troef gallery across the street which runs all weekend and on sunday will host 5 (alternative) performances.

Goatburner (Death metal - Finland)
Ripping groovy old school death metal with a twist of sludge and grind, from Helsinki, Finland. Goatburner has been doing their duo-based wall of sound and blasting since 2017, including numerous festivals and tours. The band is already releasing their 2nd full length album "Fatal" on October 6th 2023. Discography includes also "Time to Burn" EP from 2018, "Extreme Conditions" LP from 2019 and "Danger" EP from 2022.

Goatburner hits also the stages as a duo, with Kaos plugged into extensive string gear and Spider often in front row with the kit for percussive mayhem. Audiences are constantly dropping their jaws in front of this dynamic duo, wondering if there's supportive musicians behind the stage - which isn't the case obviously. With more than 50 years of musicianship and over 10 bands under their belt, Goatburner is an unstoppable force that will continue taking over new stages around the world constantly.

Death Crusade (d-beat/crust/metal - Poland)
Death Crusade is a crust punk/death metal band found in Gdansk (Poland) in 2014. The main idea behind the band was to play simple, aggressive music that combines both metal and punk scene. After debut album "Rakieta///Bomba" (2017) the band has gone through some personal changes which resulted in a new line up that has recorded both new album "Znów Plonie Niebo" and split with Dispyt (DC's side is entitled "Wojna". Both releases mentioned came out in 2023).

Sangre de Muerdago:
Folk from Galicië, Spain. Acoustic guitar, cello, clarinet, hurdy gurdy, key harp.

Sangre de Muérdago betekent ‘het bloed van de maretak’. De band is afkomstig uit de Spaanse regio Galicië en neemt je met hun middeleeuwse folkmelodieën mee naar vervlogen tijden en verdwenen landschappen. Rondom frontman Pablo C. Ursusson heeft zich een groep muzikanten gevormd die een bijna onnavolgbaar hoog niveau van samenspelen heeft bereikt, zoals ook valt te horen op hun net verschenen album ‘O Vento que lambe as miñas Feridas’. Sangre de Muérdago gebruikt behalve akoestische gitaren traditionele instrumenten als de draailier, de nyckelharpa en de bouzouki, gekoppeld aan meerstemmige zang. Zijn teksten zijn in de taal van Galicië, ‘Galicisch’.

Op deze tournee treedt de groep op als viertal, met onder andere een cellist en klarinettist. Deze combinatie maakte de band tot een van de hoogtepunten van het toonaangevende Roadburn Festival en het Into The Great Wide Open Festival op Vlieland vorig jaar: ”Deze muziek is pure schoonheid”, schreef een recensent onlangs. Naast het optreden in Leiden doen zij slechts twee optredens in Nederland.

soccer Committee:
Whispering, ambient, folk, soundscapes from Kekerdom, the Netherlands.

Onder de naam Soccer Committee maakt Mariska Baars muziek die zich ergens verhoudt tussen ambient, folk en soundscapes, met fluisterende zang. De muziek laat zich omschrijven als ‘fluisterfolk’, waarbij de muzikante alleen de hoogstnoodzakelijke noten speelt. De ‘stilte’ speelt een grote rol in haar muziek. De uit Leiden afkomstige Baars opereert inmiddels in Kekerdom. Na meer dan tien jaar verraste ze de wereld in 2021 met een plotselinge terugkeer. Dit album is medio 2023 opgevolgd door het album ‘/Lamb’. Deze albums zijn uitgeven door het toonaangevende Belgische label ‘Morc’.
