This year we will kick of our movie season with an outdoor film!

Fire-, Water-, Earth- and Air- all live in Element City. But, for good reasons, some elements keep their distance from each other. After all, if you want to turn off a fire, you use water, right? But these simple rules seem a little lost on Ember when she meets Wade…

This years’ outdoor film will bring a big smile to your face and can be experienced for free right outside the Auditorium facing our very own on-campus cinema: De Zwarte Doos! We will set up some chairs: first come first serve, but you can also bring your own.

Outdoor Film: Elemental

Have you ever wanted to create your own unique prints, old-school style? Join us as we explore the art of linocut, a printmaking method that has captured the imagination of artists for generations. Learn how to cut and print your own designs from scratch.

Linocut, a printmaking method, offers a creative outlet where your designs come to life through carving into linoleum blocks. Originating in the interwar years, between World War I and World War II, linocut gained widespread popularity for its versatility and expressive possibilities.

Pien van de Nieuwenhof, a teacher of fine arts with a specialization in illustration and animation will guide you through the entire process of linocut, from carving your own designs into linoleum blocks to printing your creations onto paper. In her own work, Pien explores themes such as mental health, feminism and relationships.

Practical info:
- Bring a few things to use as inspiration, such as photos (black and white with lots of contrast works well for linocuts) or sketches (including your own!);
- The ink will stain your clothes, so leave your good clothes at home.
- And… you don't need any experience. Pien will guide and help you every step of the way.

Linocut Workshop

Mads Mikkelson leads us through the savage terrain of The Promised Land with a glimmer of hope in this epic Nordic tale with Western bones. Come watch this compelling historical saga with strong tragic undertones that explores the corners of the Old World.

In 1755 Denmark, Captain Ludvig Kahlen has set himself the goal of making the untamed Danish heathland habitable in order to build a colony in the name of King Frederick V. In return, he expects a royal title with corresponding honor and wealth. However, Kahlen soon finds himself with an enemy. The ruthless landowner Frederik de Schinkel claims the land is already his. When De Schinkel discovers that two of his workers have escaped to join Kahlen, he vows revenge. Kahlen refuses to be intimidated and takes on the fight, risking both his own life and that of his emerging community.

In this widescreen spectacle, an adaptation of Ida Jessen's 2011 novel The Captain and Ann Barbara, super actor Mads Mikkelsen plays a steadfast, resourceful pioneer whose loyalty to the monarch is unwavering, but who thinks primarily of himself. Although the theme of civilization conquered on the wasteland is reminiscent of a Western, this film focuses on more complex class and gender intrigues. Civilization here is both a source of unbridled tyranny and an ideal that must be continually affirmed with individual ventures.

The Studium Generale Student Film Committee recommends this film because: “This is a film taking the time to portray a man determined to move up in the world and the consequences. Is it worth it? Mads Mikkelsen is great as usual!”

At the Venice Film Festival, the film won the SIGNIS Award and was nominated for the Golden Lion for Best Film.
