Oscar Jerome

Oscar Jerome studied at the London Conservatory before establishing his name as one of the rising stars of the London jazz scene. With a former guitarist as a father and George Benson, Wes Montgomery and John Coltrane, among others, as sources of inspiration, Jerome quickly became addicted to playing the guitar.

He is now well known internationally for his virtuoso guitar playing and characteristic fusion of jazz, hip hop, soul and funk. With his debut album ‘Breathe Deep’ from 2020, the artist has already made quite a few heads turn and he has managed to impress once again with the recently released singles.

Kokoroko

Andromeda is a platform for artists and creatives in music and art. It brings together creators from the Netherlands and beyond to deliver an unforgettable show. Andromeda is a place where innovation and expression come together, with no boundaries between creativity and disciplines. This evening consists of three sets, each lasting three quarters of an hour: Higherlife will kick things off, followed by a concert from Kokoroko in a seven-piece formation. Finally, all the musicians will come together for a grand jam session.

Higherlife
Higherlife Jam is the musical meeting place where top musicians gather to create pure magic in the moment. Founded in 2022 by drummer Junior Appiah, also known as Junya, the first edition took place in the iconic A’DAM Tower and was an immediate success. Inspired by the Ghanaian music genre Highlife, which also inspired the name of the event, Higherlife Jam offers a dynamic mix of highlife, gospel, jazz, and afrobeat. The event revolves around improvisation, collaboration, and celebrating musical freedom. The collective consists of some of the most talented artists and musicians from the Dutch scene, including Bnnyhunna, Yasper, Tallulah Rose, and Peter Somuah.

Kokoroko
Kokoroko is an afrobeat band from South London. The group is led by trumpet player Sheila Maurice-Grey, who brought together the young band members (all from various jazz conservatories in the city). Kokoroko’s music sounds like a modern version of traditional West African music, inspired by iconic artists such as Fela Kuti, Ebo Taylor, and Tony Allen. In addition to band leader Maurice-Grey, the group includes a regular saxophonist, trombonist, bassist, guitarist, and percussionist, and frequently invites fellow musicians to join them on stage during their swinging, energetic live shows.

Andromeda: Higherlife x Kokoroko

On Saturday, May 31, Super-Sonic Jazz is back at Skatecafe for a brand-new edition of Super-Sonic Jam XL—an extra-large version of Super-Sonic Jam. This time, we’re going all out across two rooms and the terrace, featuring a jam session, live acts, and a soul food barbecue. After the jam session, the night continues with an afterparty, keeping the energy high until the early hours.

For this XL edition, we’re taking things international by inviting a London-based collective to lead the jam—more on that soon… One thing is certain: every edition is bursting with energy, with guest musicians and vocalists spontaneously elevating the session to new heights. Expect a thrilling fusion of talent, energy, improvisation, and musical magic.

Super-Sonic Jam
The concept of Super-Sonic Jam was born a few years ago in the basement of Paradiso during the annual Super-Sonic Jazz Festival. These informal jam sessions brought musicians and visitors together to play deep into the night, focusing on spontaneity, creativity, and improvisation.

Since early 2024, Super-Sonic Jam has found a new home at Skatecafe, where every edition has sold out in no time. Each session, Super-Sonic Jazz invites different artists and collectives to host the jam. Past editions have been taken over by London’s Steam Down, Haarlem’s INI Movement, and Amsterdam-based initiatives Els Jam and Higherlife Jam. Super-Sonic Jam has also been invited to host jams at major events such as North Sea Jazz Festival and SMIB TNO Fest.

Skatecafe
From 18:00 to 20:00, you can order pizza at Dick & Dick, but reservations are required. Dick & Dick is part of Skatecafe and is located behind the venue, on the square.

OSHI
Super-Sonic Jam is part of OSHI, a collaborative project where music venues and talent development organizations from Haarlem, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, and The Hague join forces to help emerging artists advance their careers. OSHI aims to build a sustainable infrastructure for talented acts, supporting them in their artistic, organizational, and personal growth.

OSHI is a joint initiative by Patronaat, Popcentrum Slachthuis, Stichting INI Movement, BIRD, House of Knowledge, Paradiso, Super-Sonic Jazz, PAARD, and Orisun Studio.

Super-Sonic Jam XL X London Takeover

Amaria

Amaria McGee found her way into the music industry through an unexpected route. A “media girl” from Tampa, Florida, she initially focused on photography and videography, which brought her closer to her city’s creative scene. That same scene inspired her to release her debut track ‘Morning’ in 2020, a lo-fi R&B track that quickly became a hit and launched her career as a self-taught musician. That year also saw the release of tracks ‘Waiting’, ‘Twilight’ and ‘Moon’, quickly gathering millions of streams. Amaria grew into a versatile artist in four years. Late last year, she released her debut album, ‘Free Fallin”, which brings together her signature dreamy R&B, bass-driven neo-soul and indie influences, inspired by artists such as Erykah Badu, Tame Impala and Lianne La Havas.

French DJ Tour-Maubourg has firmly established himself as a notable name in the contemporary electronic music scene. His unique mix of soulful house, nu jazz, and acid jazz quickly caught the attention of connoisseurs. In 2024, he surprised us with a live experience featuring the Tour-Maubourg Ensemble, supported by talented jazz musicians. With this, he launched the Panorama Sessions series to capture the essence of these performances. The Panorama Sessions left a lasting impression, and The Panorama Sessions Vol. 2, set to be released on March 21, 2025, promises to further explore this musical journey. On May 11, the trio will perform live at Bitterzoet to bring this to life.

Everything Yes

Everything Yes is an American jazz fusion band that brings a fresh take on the genre while staying true to the roots of jazz. Led by drummer Zack Graybeal, known as ZackGrooves, the band combines virtuosity and experimentation to create a unique sound. With influences from funk, blues, and contemporary jazz, they create a dynamic mix of complex compositions and infectious grooves.

The band members, each with impressive backgrounds in performance and composition, share a deep musical chemistry that is the heart of their sound. Everything Yes guarantees energetic live performances, at 6 with you can experience this in real life in Tolhuistuin.

Greentea Peng

Greentea Peng is the intriguing alter ego of South Londoner Aria Wells. She is making waves with her psychedelic R&B, with neo-soul and reggae influences, and raw voice.

Her lyrics radiate a vulnerability that comes from existing between dualities: pain and pleasure, commitment and withdrawal, and the ability to express versus taking those moments to just sit back and be. Greentea Peng’s brilliance comes from her ability to weave together all these complexities while maintaining a clear mind.

In March she will release her second album ‘Tell Dem It’s Sunny’. In honor of the release she makes a stop in Paradiso.

Kaicrewsade

Kaicrewsade, better known as Kai, is an exceptionally talented 21-year-old artist from the vibrant West Side of Chicago. With a refined mix of jazz, soul, and rap, he effortlessly pushes boundaries and creates a distinctive musical landscape. Kai’s musical journey takes place between Chicago and Jacksonville, Mississippi, where he grew up with his family. From a young age, he was immersed in the world of jazz – a genre close to his heart that has had a profound influence on his development as an artist. In his childhood home, the soulful sounds of Herbie Hancock, Erykah Badu, A Tribe Called Quest, and Ahmad Jamal filled the air. Inspired by Chicago artists such as Chance the Rapper, Noname, and Saba, Kai has fully dedicated himself to discovering and developing his own sound. On Wednesday, May 21st, he will bring his captivating voice and soulful energy, combined with live instrumentation, to our Upstairs venue.

Alabaster DePlume

Alabaster DePlume, the stage name of Gus Fairbairn from Manchester, is a musician, composer and poet known for his special mix of jazz, folk and spoken word. His music has a warm, soothing atmosphere, ranging from difficult to simple repeated melodies that often have something magical.

DePlume is a descendant of the famous cultural breeding ground Total Refreshment Center in East London, where bands such as Kokoroko and The Comet also have their origins, and sometimes plays an important role in the city’s vibrant contemporary jazz scene. Alabaster DePlume announced ‘Prologue To A Blade’ in October – a series of creative statements that are the prelude to a larger project that will be released next year via the International Anthem label.

The new EP features two songs recorded in Palestine with local musicians, pianist Sami El Enani and qanoun player Laith Albandak, and a third song inspired by the experience of living in solidarity with the people present. The EP is accompanied by news of DePlume’s debut collection of poetry and a tour of the US and Europe. This work forms the basis for his ever-evolving artistic journey, exploring the role of dignity in healing and its impact on community, society and humanity.

His work is imbued with personal vulnerability and a strong political message, drawing attention to both individual feelings and collective issues. He wants his audience to understand what he is doing and why. On Saturday, May 24, Alabaster DePlume invites listeners to the Zonnehuis to reflect with him on the deeper meaning of his work.

The Pharcyde

Hiphop royalty The Pharcyde will celebrate the anniversary of their groundbreaking album ‘Labcabincalifornia’ on June 3rd. Released in 1995, this album marked a new era for the group, where their signature humor and wordplay merged with smooth jazzy beats and a deeper form of storytelling. Although it received mixed reviews upon release due to the group’s sudden shift in direction from their previous album, it garnered critical acclaim in retrospective reviews, with many praising its consistency, smooth production, and sensitive topics.

The Pharcyde – Labcabincalifornia – 30th Anniversary Tour

Florence Adooni

Florence Adooni comes from Kumasi, the second-largest city in Ghana. Kumasi is seen as the epicenter of highlife music and the vibrant gospel of the local ethnic subgroup Frafra. However, Adooni’s contribution to this scene deviates from the traditional way music is played in northern Ghana. She surrounds herself with highlife musicians from the city and combines the soul of the northern savannah with the sound of the rainforest region, blending both cultures. Her eye for talent, charm, and soul have ensured that her debut single “Mam Pe’ela Su’ure” has received much appreciation in Ghana and around the world.

We are an Amsterdam-based non-profit platform for exciting artists who move within the universe of jazz. We release music on our independent record label, and in collaboration with Paradiso we organize concerts, jams, and the annual Super-Sonic Jazz Festival.

Calling our artists, crew, and visitors ‘family’ isn’t something we do without intention: It’s our goal to unite, connect, and inspire each other. Apart from organizing events and releasing music, we share background stories about the artists we love and extend knowledge about past and present music. We are building this community together.
