ROOTS is known for creating immersive music experiences that showcase local music collectives, and this time they’re teaming up with the incredible DJ collective, Aan Tafel!. Aan Tafel! brings a fresh perspective to the local music scene though the representation of incredible female and non-binary DJs 🌈

Join us on June 22nd at 18:00 as we kick off the evening with delicious food, a mix of documentaries, and an insightful panel talk where ROOTS interviews Aan Tafel! about their origins and the inspiring history of Disco & House music. ✨ Then, at 21:00, get ready to dance as the party starts with electrifying DJ sets by Leon, Lotus, Chirty, and Zena-Rae! 🎧

IRL. SPEED DATING: Bi & Pan special

Poppy van Gijzen is a Rotterdam-based artist who uses the technique of tufting in her practice.
She recently started Studio Poppies, a company and studio in the Glasfabriek in Schiedam. Van Gijzen has gained much notoriety in a short space of time. Her work was on display during the Groot Rotterdams Atelierweekend and Neoliet Bolder Gym in 2022, and she exhibited at Kaapse Maria in 2023.

In the past year, van Gijzen has been researching where the wool that is used in her tapestries comes from. The wool she buys often comes from New Zealand or China, while The Netherlands has sheep that also produce wool of the same quality. Her research led her to the shocking fact that Dutch sheep produce around 1,5 million kilos of wool, and 95% of this ends up being burnt or thrown away.

With this exhibition, van Gijzen wants to start a wool revolution. Because wool is often seen as an old-fashioned, itchy, and outdated material, she wants to prove the contrary. Wool has many benefits, it is fire-resistant, soundproof and fully compostable.

Van Gijzen says the following about her research:
My research has value for the Dutch sheep farmer and the consumer who values locally sourced products and supporting small companies and initiatives that put quality first.

This exhibition presents a selection of tapestries and a video work about wool. Van Gijzen has also made new work, especially for the exhibition at Time is the new space; a wool cloud.
