On November 14, 1994, the notary signed the articles of association of the Museum Maarssen Foundation. This made the establishment of the museum (now the Vechtstreek Museum) a fact. Shortly before, the municipality of Maarssen had decided to outsource and privatize the municipality's so-called Antiquities Room. In the course of 1995, the museum opened its doors to the public, and that was the actual start of the museum. In the meantime, the historical objects of the Antiquity Room had been moved from the attic of Goudestein to the adjacent Coach House (Silverstein).
