Nog nooit was er zo'n excentriek hiphop-trio als de zuidelijke CunninLynguists. Met tracks in verschillende genres, worden zij muzikaal in één adem vergeleken met UGK en Atmosphere. Niet alleen opende CunninLynguists shows voor niemand minder dan Kanye West en Pharrell, maar werkten ze ook samen met BIG K.R.I.T., Cee Lo Green en Freddie Gibbs. Na 6 jaar mogen we de groep op 9 oktober weer verwelkomen in onze OZ, don’t miss out!

Visiting ADE and ready to make a difference? Join the Bridges for Music cycling tour around Amsterdam! After rides from Berlin, London and Paris, plus a virtual marathon last year, it’s time for a charity cycle through ADE’s very own home town.

Having quickly become a true ADE staple over the past 5 years, the ADE charity cycle for Bridges for Music is back on Wednesday, October 13th from 11 AM onward. This year, you can look forward to a 100+ km ride around Amsterdam with pit stops at iconic venues and with a grand finale at the ADE Business Hangout where riders and other industry professionals will be able to come together for some welcome drinks to support the cause of Bridges for Music, with special thanks to Buma.

Over the past years, the ADE Cycle by Bridges for Music - a non-profit organization - has raised over €150K thanks to partners in the industry, Pioneer DJ, RA & Awakenings, with many riders participating during past editions, including Richie Hawtin, Joris Voorn, Rebekah, Pan-Pot and many more. The funding helped build a creative media school in the township of Langa in Cape Town, where today over 120 students per year have access to free education in music production, music business, entrepreneurship, mindfulness and DJing.

Anyone interested can sign up for the ride and help raise funds for the Bridges Foundation by applying below. Riders signing up will receive a limited edition bike bag by Killat and access to some delicious bites and drinks after the ride.

Miguel Atwood-Ferguson

Metropole Orkest and Melkweg pay homage to one of the most influential producers of modern electronic music during the ADE Opening Concert on ADE Wednesday. This October, the orchestra teams up for a one-off tribute with multi-instrumentalist and composer Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, who has contributed to over six hundred albums, films, and TV-shows.

This year marks the year that the late producer J Dilla would have turned fifty years old. Dilla is seen as one of the most influential hip-hop producers of all time and has marked electronic music as we know it like no other. His 'laid-back' style took instrumental hip-hop to new heights, and his use of the MPC sampler was groundbreaking. His style is still very much of an influence on modern-day electronic music.

'Suite For Ma Dukes'

This year's collaborator, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, knows Dilla's work like no other. He and Carlos Nino created 'Suite For Ma Dukes', an album inspired by the late producer. This album grew into a series of live shows around the world. As ADE seeks the crossover between electronic music and other genres, it would only make sense to celebrate the producer's life in Amsterdam. The ADE Opening Concert will be the first time the Metropole Orkest plays the show as a special tribute to J Dilla and his legacy.

Dilla's mother, Maureen Yancey, better known as Ma Dukes, is this year's guest of honour at ADE and will open the concert on behalf of Dilla's family.

During ADE week, OSCAM and Prince Claus Fund will once again provide a platform for female-identifying and transgender hip hop artists, celebrating their significant contributions to the genre, through a writerscamp, an OSCAM Speak Session and a showcase. The writerscamp is a 7-day program where artists from abroad and the Netherlands can learn from each other with the ultimate goal of producing and launching 1 song. They showcase this song during ADE in OSCAM and in the Melkweg with 1 song of their own in addition. Afterwards, during an OSCAM Speak Session, they will talk about their love for Hip Hop.

Hip hop is more than music: it is both a form of personal expression and a shared culture. Hip hop – the art and culture – is hugely popular on a global scale and resonates with people from all socio-economic backgrounds, but is often misunderstood within the professional art world. Placing hip hop in a museum creates space for an interesting cross-pollination between two different art worlds. The global becomes local, the personal becomes cultural and the audible becomes visual.

Floating Points

There seems to be nothing Sam Shepherd, better known as Floating Points, cannot do. The Londoner is blessed with excellent skills on the piano and behind the turntables, renowned for his forward-thinking DJ sets, but he has also earned his stripes as a genre-crossing producer. Since his first EP "Vacuum," a jazzy house record that remains popular in the DJ community 15 years later, he founded Eglo Records. The releases became increasingly musical, with highlights like 'Nuits Sonores' and 'People's Potential'. After forays into jazz, ambient, and electronica, the latest Floating Points release 'Del Oro' is once again a straight-up house banger. Perfect for the clubs and the upcoming festival summer. On Wednesday, October 16th, Floating Points will bring a special live set to Melkweg on the opening night of ADE 2024.

Metropole Orkest verzorgt al acht jaar traditiegetrouw het openingsconcert van het Amsterdam Dance Event in de Melkweg. Dit jaar brengen zij in samenwerking met multi-instrumentalist en componist Miguel Atwood-Ferguson een bijzonder eerbetoon aan J Dilla, een van de meest bewonderde en invloedrijke hiphop-producers van de jaren 2000, die met zijn inventieve beats een sterke stempel heeft gedrukt op hedendaagse elektronische muziek.

De veelzijdige Miguel Atwood-Ferguson heeft bijgedragen aan meer dan 600 albums, films en tv-shows, waarbij hij samenwerkte met een breed scala aan artiesten. Onder hen bevinden zich namen als Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Dr. Dre, Chaka Khan, Erykah Badu, Thundercat, en vele anderen. Dilla's werk inspireerde Miguel en producer Carlos Nino om ‘Suite For Ma Dukes’ te maken. Wat in 2009 begon als een 4-track EP groeide uit tot een reeks spannende liveshows, en waarbij de muziek werd vertolkt door een ensemble met wisselende bezetting. 

J Dilla zou dit jaar 50 zijn geworden, en gezien zijn grote invloed op elektronische muziek, komt de show naar ADE en wordt voor het eerst uitgevoerd door Metropole Orkest. De moeder van Dilla, Maureen ‘Ma Dukes’ Yancey, komt met Miguel Atwood-Ferguson mee, zal het concert openen en is eregast tijdens de ADE conferentie.
