BIMHUIS, Piet Heinkade 3, 1019 BR Amsterdam, Netherlands

Singer Monica Akihary and guitarist Niels Brouwer present new album with unique ensemble. The warm voice of Monica Akihary and the inventive guitar playing of Niels Brouwer form the basis of Boi Akih. From and to Infinity is a composition by Brouwer with lyrics by Akihary, consisting of four parts: The Sea, Dryland, The City, and Joy. Originally it was written for the 70-piece Molucca Bamboowind Orchestra, from the city of Ambon. The new eponymous album contains arrangements for organs, recorders, kora, percussion, gendèr (gamelan instrument), guitar, and voice. The new arrangements are performed by a special line-up of Boi Akih, with recorder player Dodó Kis, kora player Sekou Dioubate, and pianist Nora Mulder. What was originally composed for bamboo orchestra – from piccolo to contrabass bamboo flute – will be performed on organ by Nora Mulder. The album was recorded on the unique organs of Orgelpark Amsterdam. For the live performance, Nora Mulder will play a chest organ with 200 pipes and 19 extra bass pipes in a separate element. Monica Akihary voice/bass kalimba/electronics, Niels Brouwer gitaren/gongs/electronics, Sekou Dioubate 35-string kora/slitdrum, Dodó Kis soprano/alto/tenor recorder/paetzold-bass recorder, Nora Mulder chest organ -- (Text and image) https://www.bimhuis.nl/en/calendar/boi-akih-from-and-to-infinity-2/
