Archival Resistance aims to transcend borders, spotlighting stories from communities often overlooked, and exploring how music preserves memory, identity, and collective resistance. Each evening is a multisensory journey: thought-provoking films, intimate conversations, and music that invites reflection.

In our first Archival Resistance screening, we’ll be showing R21 aka Restoring Solidarity, a documentary by Palestinian filmmaker Mohanad Yaqubi. This 71-minute film uncovers a fascinating archive: twenty 16 mm films, created from the 1960s to 1980s by filmmakers supporting the Palestinian liberation movement, and preserved by a Japanese solidarity movement. 

Through fragments of an undelivered love‑letter from a Japanese activist to a Palestinian artist, Yaqubi weaves a poetic, essay-like montage. It’s a meditation on transnational solidarity, showing how the Palestinian resistance fighters and Japanese leftist activists found affinity through images, politics, and shared struggle.

You’ll see interviews, experimental footage and more. The film engages us in how local struggles travel across borders.

Each shift of the screening will be followed by a DJ set by Saja Amro and Karmel Sabri, inspired by the spirit of the film. The first screening also includes a Q&A with director Yaqubi via video, allowing us to dive into his archiving process.
