Lotus Krabbé Unveils Her Latest Creations During Her Third Solo Exhibition at I Love Illustration Gallery Following the enchanting debut of the talented artist Lotus Krabbé (Amsterdam, 2001) at I Love Illustration Gallery two years ago, her third solo exhibition is now approaching, just before summer. Lotus, the fifth generation of artists from the Krabbé family, presents a collection of 30 new drawings on paper and canvas, each offering a glimpse into her world of travels and daily reflections – a visual diary revealed for everyone to behold. With delicate brushstrokes and boundless creativity, Lotus invites you to immerse yourself in her realm. Don’t miss the chance to acquire a piece of her captivating art. Q&A with Lotus Krabbé What have been your main artistic developments and highlights of the past year? In the past year, I’ve focused more on the process rather than the end result. I now paint with more tranquility and variety. I’ve consistently drawn and learned how to use drawings as the foundation for my paintings. Can you tell us about specific changes or new directions in your work since your last exhibition? My work has become calmer compared to last year. I’ve taken more time for reflection and painted less intensively, resulting in a larger number of drawings in this exhibition. Much of my work is based on my friends and immediate surroundings, with many plein air sketches forming the basis for my paintings. What makes this exhibition unique and distinct from your previous works? This exhibition contains significantly more drawings. Sketches are an important aspect of my creative process, and over the past year, I’ve focused more on the ‘study’ phase rather than the ‘production’ phase. A painting often feels like an endpoint, while a sketch is a starting point. This exhibition feels like a starting point for the next phase to me. Can you give us an insight into the themes or inspirations central to the works on display? The themes and inspirations are my friends, my immediate surroundings, and my dream world. Do you have specific goals or plans for future projects or creative explorations that you’d like to share with us? I am applying to the art academy in Antwerp and am curious to see if that will work out. It seems wonderful to try different things as a student, which would relieve the pressure of being an artist. If that doesn’t work out, I will travel again and participate in various residencies. In any case, I will keep painting! All works are for sale.
