The Roots has evolved into one of the most influential and respected hip-hop acts in the industry, known for their instrumental mix of hip-hop, jazz, and neosoul. The band originated in 1987 when rapper Black Thought and drummer Questlove became friends at their high school in Philadelphia. They started performing together and soon met bassist Hub and rapper Malik B. After achieving national success, the band decided to record their first album in 1993. In the following years, The Roots grew to seven members and released nine more studio albums and two EPs. With their discography, they won four Grammys and were nominated twelve times. Additionally, they are currently the house band for the American 'The Tonight Show' with Jimmy Fallon and host their own music festival 'The Roots Picnic'.
