A Song of Woes, We offer Steeps is a musical performance that travels through various songs, stories, and melodies from diverse geographical landscapes of Nepal and Himalayan regions. It is a composition and a collection of joys, sorrows, rituals, festivals, struggles, migration, and urbanization that evokes the contemporary Nepalese and Himalayan experience. Their performance experiments with various traditional and contemporary styles of Nepalese and Tibetan musical repertoires incorporating electronic elements. The collaboration between Jason, Ranav, Sanskriti and Turi brings together various instruments such as singing bowls, Tibetan cymbals, woodwinds like the Radung, Bamboo flutes, string instruments like the Nepalese Sarangi, Nepasese drum Dhimay of Newar people and eastern classical instruments plus the Tabla, along with electronic soundscapes. The result is a mesmerizing sound that transcends cultural boundaries and transports the listener to unexplored sonic realms. It's a truly immersive musical adventure. Jason Kunwar (Nepal) based in Kathmandu, is a multidisciplinary artist and award-winning film music composer. Drawing from Nepalese and Himalayan folk traditions, contemporary philosophy, experimental text, and local politics, his work over the past 15 years delves deeply into the challenges of village life, laborers, and migrant workers. Holding a Master's in Ethnomusicology, Kunwar has extensively researched Nepal's vanishing traditional musical practices, instruments, and folklore. His recent creations blend electronic soundscapes with traditional Nepalese and Tibetan instruments. Ranav Adhikari (Nepal/Germany) is a multidisciplinary artist, researcher and media technologist/ producer, who founded Boiling Head Media in Berlin. He holds a Bachelors in Ethno-Musicology from Kathmandu University and a Master in Visual and Media Anthropology from Freie University Berlin. He has been involved in audio, video, and event production for various artist and companies including Sasha Waltz & Guest, etc. Turi Leng Seong Agostino (Australia/Germany) is an Australian-born composer and producer based in Berlin. Agostino’s music embraces multiple genres, and concepts of temporality and identity, which he traces back to his Chinese-Malaysian-Italian heritage. Agostino has worked as a producer with German hip hop artist Mauli and Scandinavian folk singer/songwriter Tuvaband, ao. Sanskrtiti Shrestha (Nepal/ Norway) is a Nepalese tabla player based in Oslo. Shrestha has been active in some iconic projects in Scandinavia, touring across Europe, Asia, and Australia with ensembles spanning a large diversity of musical genres. She brings her Nepalese/Indian musical background in the merge with jazz, electronics and other styles of contemporary music. She has been working to promote the tabla to be recognized as a versatile instrument with rich possibilities.Sanskriti learned Tabla from her teacher Homnath Upadhyaya in Kathmandu where she completed her masters in Tabla from Allahabad Sangeet Samiti Ktm.
