About

Makershuis Tilburg and De Nieuwe Vorst invite new makers this summer to finally present to an audience again. We, and they too, can't wait! And hopefully you can't either. A summer in De Nieuwe Vorst is of course not complete without new makers. Enjoy four evenings of experiments, trials, unfinished business, public rehearsals and try-outs in the field of theater, dance and more... The program is still in the making so keep an eye on the website. Host: Joanne Mensert Maria Sartzetaki The thing that was before is gone A performance choreographed and performed by Maria Sartzetaki, with live sound by multimedia artist Cem Altinoz. It is an exploration of themes such as death and decay, focusing on the visceral bodily response to these subjects. Our inspiration for all elements of this performance, including movement, sound and light, came from exploring concepts such as rites of passage, transcendence and transformative cycles, where the concepts of existence and non-existence alternate. Alienated Machinergy On a long, yellow machine band, two performers balance between human and machine. Repetitive, staccato movements alternate with softness and round shapes. In a waltz between these two elements, the dancers show the synergy that arises when they collaborate. The Tilburg dance company Alienated deals with this duet about how to remain connected as humans in a world governed by machines and technology. How do you maintain the balance between individuality and collectivity? And how do you move between autonomy and dependence? What does it mean to depend on another? Speels Collectief Love me by the hour It sounds like a wrong fairy tale: the woman who needs to be saved and the dirty little man. But that is still the dominant image of sex workers and their clients in our society. From quickies and pure desire to special long nights and intimate relationships. What makes the relationship between sex worker and client unique? Based on experiences of sex workers and their clients, the performance LOVE ME BY THE HOUR unfolds a much broader view of sex work. Beyond the cliché of the red light, we focus on those for whom intimacy - for whatever reason - is a matter of supply and demand. With red ears, but without shame, this musical movement performance is an ode to the many forms of paid intimacy. Ilja Geelen RE:Set Tonight Ilja presents a new scene from the still evolving solo RE:Set. “RE:Set is a kind of movement diary, an anchor point in the midst of a constantly changing environment. When I made it, I alternated between living in Morocco and the Netherlands. Each time I moved between those two extremes, a new scene or movement phrase emerged. In this way, I reflected on my place in these different societies and expressed the confusion, alienation and joy of being 'foreign' somewhere. Now, just back from six months in Cairo, I try again to tie up the loose ends, to integrate this new chapter into my life and into my work.” Julia Akkermans How we can('t) exist Julia Akkermans and Liz van den Akker show a preview and sketch material of their photo and video installation How we can('t) exist. An installation that exposes the societal phenomenon 'burn-out' and thereby makes it visible and tangible. What happens during the time someone 'collapses' and no longer participates in society? What does this 'standing still' look like? And why is it often the woman who ends up with a burn-out? What contortions must she perform, what qualities must she possess, what aspects must she ignite or suppress within herself to be able to keep up in our society? Julia Akkermans will also give a short preview of an accompanying theatrical lecture that complements the installation. Studio Paul & Haiko What do we wear when no one is looking? Studio Paul & Haiko delves into the tension between the person we want to be and the person we show to the world. They explore the space between personal desires and societal expectations, between how things are and how they should be. For example, Paul stubbornly learned as a five-year-old that skirts were for girls, not for boys. Using textiles, collage art and photo manipulation, they rewrite both personal and collective histories, erase shame and create space for suppressed desires. What new possibilities arise when we let go of ingrained conventions? During this Makers Session they unveil their new wall hanging in progress: a puzzle-like self-portrait of Paul, made from hundreds of pieces of his mother's dresses. 👉 PAY WHAT YOU WANT For this summer program we use 'Pay what you want'. So you decide for yourself afterwards what you want and can pay. We are happy with any amount, no matter how small, and it helps us to continue presenting the work of young makers. So please reserve your spot.
