Peasant girl Jagna tries to find her own way in 19th century Poland, gorgeous animation by the creators of Loving Vincent. Independent peasant girl Jagna must let go of her love for Antek, when she is forced to marry his rich and old father Boryna. More and more, her life becomes a struggle for self-suffieciency in a small village filled with jealousy, gossip, feuds and a very deep-rooted patriarchy. Once again the creators of Loving Vincent were inspired by existing paintings to tell their emotional story. The Peasants was based on the Nobel Prize winning Chlopi books by Wladyslaw Reymont. The handpainted images are based on 19th and 20th century works by Polish artists such as Józef Chelmonski, Ferdynand Ruszczyc and Leon Wyczólkowski.
