Dit concert vormt de afsluiting van de [BassoonLAB](http://www.bassoonlab.nl) Summer Masterclass 2025, gegeven door Andrea Cellacchi in Splendor. Op het programma staan werken uit het fagotrepertoire, waaraan de studenten tijdens de lessen hebben gewerkt. De avond wordt afgesloten met een stuk voor fagotensemble.

The programme features works from the bassoon repertoire, performed by the participating students, as well as a bassoon ensemble piece to close the evening.

Na de onvergetelijke jam van afgelopen zomer zijn we terug met een nieuwe, explosieve editie van Funkin’4 Splendor — een unieke jamsessie waar muzikanten en dansers het podium delen in pure improvisatie. Funky, soulvol, experimenteel – en altijd vol verrassingen.

Een dag vóór *Summer Dance Forever* van start gaat in Paradiso (19 augustus), organiseren we deze onafhankelijke jam voor de wereldwijde dance-community die dan al in Amsterdam neerstrijkt.

Tijdens de vorige editie zagen we verbluffende dansers en spontane samenwerkingen die nog steeds nagalmen. Dit jaar nodigen we opnieuw dansers, muzikanten en DJ’s uit — of je nu eerder meedeed of voor het eerst komt — om die magie opnieuw tot leven te brengen.

In John Dowlands tijd (eind 16e- begin 17e eeuw) was melancholische muziek erg populair en dat is eigenlijk altijd zo gebleven. De doorgaans goedgeluimde Jan Willem, Maarten en Mike doen een greep uit 400 jaar melancholische liederen en songs. Met muziek van Dowland via Schubert tot jazzstandards. Onder het motto: Je wordt er niet vrolijk van maar het is wel mooi….

**Andrea Voets, musical journalist en harpist, neemt je mee in recente wereldgeschiedenis, verteld door millennials, die als kind gebeurtenissen meemaakten als het éénkindbeleid in China, de Iran-Irakoorlog en het narco-geweld in Mexico. Het publiek speelt een actieve rol: na elke scène is er ruimte om gedachten en gevoelens te delen. Zo krijgt elke avond een eigen vorm. In this gathering, we revisit recent world history across four continents, told by millennials who witnessed it first hand as children: an absurd war, an industrial tragedy, a mobilisation of musicians, and an all-encompassing social experiment.

By joining this event, you too become a witness to these stories. After each scene, all guests are invited to share their thoughts. These live reactions shape the course of the evening—no gathering will ever be the same.

All voices combined form one big testimony of global power dynamics—forces that disrupt even the most sincere human bonds, leaving people torn between deep love and great fear. 
During Nothing Bigger Than Humanity, we break free from that impossible state by reconnecting with the shared humanity that unites us all.

Nothing Bigger than Humanity

**Twee harpisten, twee zalen, twee werelden**. Tijdens dit concert nemen Remy van Kesteren en Kevin Le Pennec je mee in hun eigen universum en hun gedeelde liefde voor de harp. Remy speelt op zolder, Kevin in de kleine zaal en halverwege het concert wisselt het publiek van ruimte.

Kevin Le Pennec is een queer harpist uit Bretagne. Met zijn haakjesharp, heldere stem en poëtische teksten creëert hij een wereld waar traditionele muziek samensmelt met hedendaagse pop. Zijn songs zijn tegelijk zacht, ritmisch en krachtig, en snijden thema’s aan als genderidentiteit, homoseksualiteit en feminisme — onderwerpen die zelden aan bod komen in traditionele muziek. Samen met de vele andere events betekent dit dat onze leden voor €9,99 p/m (en €4,99 voor minima en studenten!) ruim 50 concerten per jaar gratis kunnen bezoeken - en ze op alle overige concerten korting krijgen. **Two harpists, two rooms, two worlds**. In this unique concert at Splendor Amsterdam, Remy van Kesteren and Kevin Le Pennec invite you into their own universes and their shared love for the harp. Remy performs in the attic, Kevin in the small hall — halfway through the evening, the audience switches rooms, allowing you to experience both artists in their own intimate setting.

Kevin Le Pennec is a queer harpist from Brittany. With his bracket harp, clear voice, and poetic lyrics, he creates a world where traditional music blends with contemporary pop. His songs are gentle, rhythmic, and powerful all at once, addressing themes like gender identity, homosexuality, and feminism — subjects rarely heard in traditional music. Kevin has won several prizes, including the Camac Trophy (2019) and the World Harp Competition (2024, first prize and audience award), and performs internationally from Europe to New Zealand.

Remy van Kesteren is known for his genre-defying style, in which the harp comes to life through soundscapes, electronics, and improvisation. His playing is elusive, adventurous, and deeply personal — a musical journey that keeps you on the edge of your seat time and again.

**Palpitations – een concert dat je voelt**

Wat als je hartslag deel wordt van de muziek? In Palpitations (hartkloppingen) vervaagt de grens tussen publiek en podium, tussen concert en theater, tussen luisteren en beleven. Fagotvirtuoos Thomas Dulfer – speelt bij menig orkesten door heel het land – neemt je mee in een boeiende voorstelling waarin muziek, licht en hartslagen samenkomen tot een onvergetelijke ervaring.

Centraal staat de fagot. Een instrument dat iedereen kent uit het symfonieorkest, maar ook een instrument dat mensen telkens verrast als solo-instrument. In dit programma hoort het publiek het instrument solo én als onderdeel van een nog nooit vertoond fagotkoor. 
De bezoeker hoort stukken die soms letterlijk (!) recht uit het hart komen, ziet een spectaculaire lichtinstallatie die reageert op de hartslag van het publiek, en beleeft hoe Thomas live speelt met zijn eigen hartslag. Als bezoeker word je niet alleen geraakt, je doet ook echt mee: jouw hartslag wordt onderdeel van het 'hartorkest' dat elk concert uniek maakt.

Is het een concert? Een theatervoorstelling? Een TED Talk? Een performance? Palpitations is het allemaal tegelijk – en dus echt iets anders. Verrassend en muzikaal van topkwaliteit.

**Palpitations – A Concert You Can Feel**

What if your heartbeat became part of the music? In *Palpitations*, the boundary between audience and stage, between concert and theatre, between listening and experiencing, begins to blur. Bassoon virtuoso Thomas Dulfer – known from orchestras across the country – takes you on a captivating journey where music, light, and heartbeats come together in an unforgettable experience.

At the heart of the performance is the bassoon. It’s an instrument everyone knows from the symphony orchestra, yet it continues to surprise when played as a solo instrument. In this program, the audience hears the bassoon both solo and as part of a never-before-seen bassoon choir.

The audience will hear pieces that, quite literally, come straight from the heart, see a spectacular light installation that responds to their own heartbeat, and witness Thomas playing live with his own heartbeat. As a visitor, you won't just be moved – you'll actively take part: your heartbeat becomes part of the "heart orchestra" that makes every concert unique. Alongside this.

Is it a concert? A theatre performance? A TED Talk? A live art experience? Palpitations is all of these at once – and truly something different. Surprising and musically top-tier.

Palpitations

De Klankkaravaan vertelt, verklankt en verbindt verhalen – geschreven, gecomponeerd én geïmproviseerd. De drie musici hebben een brede achtergrond in klassieke muziek, jazz en improvisatie, en bewegen zich graag tussen verschillende genres en kunstvormen.

In deze voorstelling brengen zij hun liefde voor literatuur en muziek samen. Als muzikanten én vertellers werpen ze nieuw licht op bestaande verhalen – waarbij klank en taal samenkomen in iets verrassends en nieuws.

Een reis vol verbeelding: van een dierenverhaal over een boom, een nest en een ei tot poëzie van de Vijftigers – en alles daar tussenin.

The three musicians have a broad background in classical music, jazz, and improvisation, and enjoy moving between different musical genres and art forms.

In this performance, they bring together their love of literature and music. As both musicians and storytellers, they shed new light on existing tales – blending sound and language into something fresh and surprising.

A journey full of imagination: from an animal story about a tree, a nest, and an egg, to poetry from the Dutch "Fifties" movement – and everything in between.

A rare session with Marc and Lesley Mok (NY) and Florian Herzog (DE). Celebrating the release of Lesley Mok's debut album The Living Collection. An stunning suite for ten musicians. In their work the Brooklyn-based drummer and composer focuses on overacting humanness to explore ideas about alienness and privilege. For this one-of evening the trio of composers and improvisers, will explore these concepts through sound and poetry.

Het idee

Een groep van ondernemende musici, componisten en kunstenaars had in 2010 een plan: investeren in een plek waar alles mogelijk is wat nergens anders kan, waar grenzeloos geëxperimenteerd kan worden en waar kunstenaars elkaar en hun publiek ontmoeten en inspireren.

De musici

Splendor wordt gerund door een groep van 50 professionele topmusici uit alle hoeken en gaten van de internationale muziekwereld. Splendor is als een tweede huis voor hen en het publiek, maar ook voor musici uit binnen- en buitenland die in Splendor willen repeteren of optreden. De vaste musici van Splendor investeerden allemaal 1000 euro en spelen jaarlijks een aantal keer voor de leden. In ruil daarvoor is het gebouw 365 dagen per jaar dag en nacht beschikbaar voor alles wat ze maar willen doen met muziek.

De leden

Het leukste onderdeel van het succes van Splendor is dat we het samen doen met de Splendorleden. Voor €120 per jaar geven de 50 Splendormusici elk jaar 50 ledenconcerten waar je als lid van Splendor gratis naar toe kan.
De Splendor ledenconcerten zijn bij uitstek de momenten dat leden en musici elkaar spreken en dat er nieuwe plannen worden beraamd om Splendor nog leuker te maken.
