Rooted in folk, with dreampop- and shoegaze- influences, barren sea is an alternative rock band that strives to convey the contradictions of love, nostalgia, sadness yet gratefulness present in everyday life. The emotional lyrics of Marie van der Zalm are supported by the distorted and distant guitar of Lorenzo Bissi, the funky, full bass lines of Pascal van Luit and the dynamic, explosive drumming of Andrew Keys. Born in 2023, barren sea is currently working on its debut EP the War on Cars, a collection of songs born from Lorenzo’s enthusiasm, bred by Marie’s memories and scenes of everyday inspiration, and brought to life through Pascal and Andrew’s rhythmic intuitions. Transmitting emotions in a simple, accessible and bare way is barren sea’s vision of music. It is a journey of constant evolution, influences and stimuli: what stays constant is the need to use music as a way to express themselves.
