GROT

We would love to combine the launch of GROT by Jonny Kaye with a signing, an exhibition, and a set of performances (pole dance by Maddie and power-play by Cherry) accompanied by 3 techno djs (continuum mechanics and James Cherry) who will shake up the space with their hard beats throughout the night. The event will be centered around the theme of the book - the kink scene that I am showcasing in Jonny’s book. GROT presents a selection from his archive of photographic works from 2019-2023, consisting of thousands of images. The word “grot” can be understood as something unpleasant, dirty, or of poor quality. The reason why Jonny chose this title is because his work is often being judged and he finds it important as an artist to question the current taboos surrounding the kink scene that he finds highly constraining for contemporary society. Instead, he would like to create a celebratory and safe space where like-minded people can thrive, inspire each other, and have meaningful conversations. On display, we would like to combine posters with printed images to create the atmosphere of the space as is in his book. The launch would be an experience, a kind of entrance to his own world. When inviting people, the outfits will be important to complement the inclusivity and diversity of the space while offering a discount for tickets to people who show up in a fetish outfit. We are now also in discussion with Discarded Magazine to combine GROT launch with their second printed issue XXX 2 (dedicated to contemporary erotic photography) which will also be released around that time and will feature some of Jonny’s works.
