The Mystery Lights' explosieve liveshows zijn legendarisch. De band combineert 60’s garagerock met blues, soul en surfrock. Dit oorspronkelijk uit California afkomstige vijftal brengt galmende gitaren, warme basklanken en vette orgelgeluiden. Toen het soullabel Daptone Records, bekend van Charles Bradley en Sharon Jones, hun Wick Records rock imprint lanceerde, verspilden ze geen tijd om The Mystery Lights te benaderen. Een rock ’n roll band op een soullabel, dat is nog niet zo gek; de orgelgeluiden en warme bas zorgen voor een sexy-soul sound, maar ook de analoge opnames en het authentieke songwriterschap passen bij het label. Ze blinken uit een garagerock sound vol psychedelica in ’60 style. De sound kruipt onder de huid en de soulvolle stem van Mike Brandon weet indruk te maken.
