Olivier van Niekerk (Juni 2002) begon op zijn 7e begonnen met gitaar spelen. De eerste jaren speelde hij rock- en bluesmuziek, maar nadat hij de muziek van jazzgitaristen zoals Kenny Burrell en Wes Montgomery ontdekte en hier dusdanig door gegrepen werd, wist hij snel dat hij zich in dit genre wilde gaan verdiepen. Na een middelbare schoolperiode aan de School voor Jong Talent aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium van Den Haag, waar hij les kreeg van o.a. Martijn van Iterson, studeert Olivier momenteel aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam waar hij les kreeg/krijgt van Maarten van de Grinten, Reinier Baas en Jesse van Ruller.

Olivier heeft mogen spelen op binnenlandse podia zoals het Bimhuis, Lantarenvenster en het North Sea Jazz Festival, en op verschillende plekken in 8 andere landen.
Op zijn 17e werd Olivier gevraagd door hedendaagse jazzgigant Christian Scott om een nummer mee te spelen tijdens zijn concert in Rotterdam (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zARfKf3BWgQ). Dit was een droom die uitkwam en een van Olivier’s mooiste ervaringen tot nu toe uit zijn muzikale carrière.
Olivier bracht in april 2019 zijn debut ep ‘Home’ uit.
Olivier won ondere het Prinses Christina Jazz Concours en een internationale jazz-contest, gehouden in Roemenië.

Begin 2001 start Jan-Jaap van Os (gitaar) Fazzz om jazz toegankelijker en hipper te maken. Foppe Mijnlieff (Rhodes/Mooge) is al enige tijd de toetsenist als in 2008 drummer Reinier van Bevervoorde zich voegt bij het kwartet. Als in 2010 Philip Bakker de bas vacature opvult is de cirkel rond. Er worden nu ook naast het repertoire van Herbie Hancock tot Snarky Puppy, ook eigen nummers gecomponeerd.

FAZZZ

Pantelis Protopapas Quartet creates a contemporary sound through unique original compositions characterized by lyricism, energy, and nostalgia. Drawing inspiration from a wide range of influences, including modern jazz icons like Pat Metheny and Aaron Parks, as well as elements from folk and alternative rock, the quartet brings a fresh and creative approach to their music. Their friendship and shared love for modern jazz evolved as students of the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, where their musical journey began. In the winter of 2023, the quartet recorded their first collection of original material in the studio which can be found on YouTube. During their performance, the band will present their original compositions along with some of their favorite modern jazz pieces.

THE ELECTRIC MANDARINE

De stijl van “Foreing Sound” is volledig gewijd aan een van de meest bekende Braziliaanse muziekstijlen – Bossa Nova, samba en herinterpretaties van internationale muziek in Bossa Nova-stijl. De voorstelling heeft als basis een ritme gebaseerd op samba, beïnvloed door jazzmuziek. Fernando Oliveira (zang en gitaar), Felipe Duarte (drums). “Foreign Sound” is a captivating musical project that pays homage to some of Brazil’s most renowned music styles, including Bossa Nova, samba, and delightful reinterpretations of international songs infused with the Bossa Nova essence. At the heart of their performance lies a rhythmic foundation inspired by samba, skillfully blended with elements from the world of jazz. With a perfect fusion of Brazilian influences and jazz-inspired intricacies, “Foreign Sound” offers a unique and enchanting experience for music enthusiasts of all backgrounds. Fernando Oliveira

Jon Badiola is a young nineteen year old Jazz trumpet player based in Amsterdam. After completing his classical music studies in spain, he turned to jazz and started at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam where he is currently doing his third year. His influences come mostly from traditional saxophone players, and this gives him a rather unique approach and sound to trumpet.

Jon Badiola’s quartet

Lassi Firman Quartet (Finland, Cyprus, Germany, Usa) is a new international group playing original music and a wide repertoire of standards. After moving to Netherlands Lassi Friman found some likeminded musicians from the vibrant jazz scene of Amsterdam that share the same values and aesthetics of jazz tradition. This really versatile group has a found an unique blend of hardbop, contemporary and mainstream jazz. DE LEIDSE BLUES- EN JAZZWEEK 2024 VIND PLAATS VAN MAANDAG 15 T/M 21 JANUARI, MET DE KROEGENTOCHT OP WOENSDAG 17 JANUARI

KRUIDKOEK III is gebaseerd op de vele avonturen die de band de afgelopen drie jaar heeft
beleefd; van spelen in Egypte, toeren met hun eigen kindervoorstelling tot vele shows met
dichter Joost Oomen. Samen met studiogoeroe Matthijs Kievit is geprobeerd om Kruidkoek
in de meest pure vorm vast te leggen, met als gevolg een tiental ongepolijste schetsen,
vervaagde kaders en een grote kist vol speelgoed. Met een zeer uitgesproken sound is
KRUIDKOEK III toegankelijker dan ooit: door catchy melodieën en compacte vormen mag je
de stukken gerust ‘liedjes’ noemen en zou je haast vergeten dat je een zanger mist.
Misschien is dit wel de laatste studioplaat van Kruidkoek; het blijft immers het mooist om de
band in het wild aan te treffen, en dan kan alles zomaar helemaal anders gaan.
