Working with standard drawing materials and incorporating colored pencil, we will explore short, focused drawing exercises and techniques to the principles of the color wheel and how to use complements (opposite colors). Additionally, we will investigate how drawing techniques can be used to focus and connect to your surroundings. After each workshop you can expect to take home a series of sketches and at least one focused drawing, along with feedback and encouragement from peers. This series of workshops will explore techniques that simplify the transition from drawing in black and white to drawing using color. In each workshop, we will practice sketching from observation within the library space and using various materials such as colored paper and colored pencil to explore full color compositions. After each workshop you can expect to take home a series of sketches and at least one focused drawing, along with feedback and encouragement from peers. Participants will develop their findings in pursuit of a personalized approach to sketching and drawing.
