Triceratops horridus: this giant herbivore is an icon of the dinosaur era. And extremely rare too, only a handful of skeletons can be seen worldwide.

Naturalis is working on a blockbuster exhibition about Triceratops, a herd even. After more than ten years of excavation, preparation and research, the dinosaurs will be exhibited together for the first time from Friday, October 18, 2024. Nowhere else than at Naturalis in Leiden will you come face to face with five triceratopses, the dinosaur known for its large collar and three horns. Step into the world of the enormous herbivore and get to know the herd! Admire the fantastic skeletons and then dive into all the games and interactives... Collect as much food as Triceratops ate per day, find out what a Triceratops fart sounds like (and smells!) and how many teeth they exchange in their lifetime. Climb into a triceratops egg and discover how a triceratops baby grew and, together with your flock, resist the attack of Triceratops' greatest enemy: T. rex.

Escape room
Can you escape in time from the submarine Octopoes 777? Help Captain Welvaart escape from the submarine in this room full of chests filled with puzzles and brain teasers. When the door closes, the time starts. Don't panic! There is enough time to escape. Suitable for children aged 6-12 with an adult supervisor.

Celebrating together is timeless. Parades are the perfect form for this. They provide solidarity and a shared identity. When society changes, parades change with it – for example from elitist to democratic, from divided to united or vice versa.

This makes parades a mirror of society. With the exhibition Leiden celebrates – 450 years of parades, Museum De Lakenhal, together with the city and the university, celebrates the rich tradition that Leiden has in this area – a tradition that is still very much alive. We also look ahead to the future.

Leiden as a parade city: Nowhere else in our country has the history of the Netherlands been celebrated as exuberantly for so long as in Leiden. Parades have been organized in the city ever since Leiden's Relief on October 3, 1574 and the founding of the university on February 8, 1575. With the exhibition Leiden is celebrating – 450 years of parades, we look back on this rich history.

From shooting parades to folk festival: In the exhibition you will discover the developments that these parades have undergone in Leiden over the centuries: from the military and theatrical parades by shooters and rhetoricians in the early modern period and the student masquerades in the nineteenth century to the tattoo today. We also look ahead: what will the parade of the future look like?

Walking through four and a half centuries of history: The exhibition brings together striking objects and images of parades from all times. With paintings, several meters of prints, photos, films, costumes and attributes, we show how grand these celebrations were and are. Visitors can walk through four and a half centuries of Leiden parade history.

Mysterious places in the cosmos, which swallow everything and from which nothing, not even light, can escape. These are perhaps the most exciting phenomena in the universe, and scientists still do not understand everything about them.

Everyone has heard of black holes and has an image of them. The exciting, extreme properties of these places have inspired numerous stories, films and games. Research has been going on for decades and the first image of a black hole is still fresh in our minds. But what exactly are black holes? Are they really dangerous? Should we fear black holes? Is a black hole even a hole? In the new exhibition at Rijksmuseum Boerhaave you will be guided step by step through this fascinating subject, so that at the end of your visit you will have come a little closer to the black hole. The exhibition features special objects and masterpieces, both from the museum's own collection and loans from, among others, Roger Penrose personally, the Rijksmuseum, Kunstmuseum The Hague and the Science Museum in London. There are prints by Escher, Escher's first letter to Penrose, personal objects from black hole pioneer Stephen Hawking, Einstein's pen, a lithograph by Jean Pierre Luminet, drawings, letters and a puzzle by Roger Penrose and couture from the Black Hole collection. from none other than Viktor & Rolf.

Exhibition: Closer to the Black Hole

There is still a lot to do around flexwork. Whether it concerns the qualification of self-employed workers, hiring on-call workers and entering into fixed-term employment agreements. Also at political level flexwork is on the agenda.

What is exactly the difference between temporary employment and payrolling? How employ personnel flexibly if it is not clear in advance how much work there will be? How to hire self-employed workers without the employment relationship being regarded as employment agreement? And what are the points of attention when concluding fixed-term employment agreements?

During this webinar, Jaouad Seghrouchni, employment lawyer at De Clercq Advocaten Notariaat, will reflect on the (legal) aspects regarding flexible work. He will also provide practical tips and recommendations.

With the exhibition In Brilliant Light, Wereldmuseum Leiden gives a platform to contemporary art from Africa

A dynamic dialogue between the present and the recent past, the exhibition celebrates the richness and diversity of art from Africa and the diaspora.

Immerse yourself in the diverse lifeworlds of artists and how they are influenced by the past in the present. Guest curator Azu Nwagbogu put together the exhibition by complementing masterpieces from the museum's collection with work by contemporary artists, and in doing so, tries to provide answers to the most pressing questions of our time.

The exhibition features various themes such as post-colonialism, power and spirituality. Through their work, the artists try to better understand the world around them. The route contains 8 themes within which the artists reflect through their work.

Two lessons are scheduled per date: from 10:00-11:00 for children aged 4 to 7, from 11:30-12:30 for children aged 7 to 12.

Step out of the hustle and bustle of everyday life and come to yourself with your child or children under the monumental Hortus trees. We do easy-to-perform exercises that you will enjoy together, that will make you calm and relaxed, to the rhythm of the greenery around us. Help yourself and your children to find peace of mind and feel completely at ease in the greenery. One supervisor per child who also participates in the yoga.
