Join Emotions Matter and NAMI-NYC on Monday, March 18, 2024, from 7-8:30 PM, in-person at NAMI-NYC for our panel conversation: Understanding Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Panelists will discuss: - Valuable insights into BPD and dispel common myths about the disorder - Treatment approaches and coping strategies for individuals and family members - Offer practical resources for individuals and families affected by BPD - How to connect with Emotions Matter and NAMI-NYC for further support The event will kick off with a psychoeducational presentation, providing attendees with a foundational understanding of BPD. Following this, our panelists, who live with BPD or have a family member with the disorder, will share their personal experiences on the road to recovery. Schedule: 6:30-7 PM: Network and peruse resources 7-7:40 PM: Presentation on BPD 7:40-8:10 PM: Conversation with our panelists 8:10-8:30 PM: Questions & answers About the Panelists: - Melissa Ferdinando is an Emotions Matter Executive Board Member and has been involved since the organization’s inception. When her daughter was diagnosed with BPD, Melissa faced difficulty accessing reliable information, health care coverage, and peer support. Melissa quickly became a fierce advocate for her daughter and is proud to be a part of this empowering, peer-driven organization. - Coral Lopez is an Emotions Matter Board Member and licensed medical social worker for Montefiore. She has experience working with immigrants and refugees, at-risk youth, families, and older adults. Coral identifies as a peer with BPD and growing up in a Mexican household, she aims to raise awareness of this disorder through a multicultural approach. She is a Bronx native. - Michael Meikson is a digital product designer and artist living in New York City. He has lived experience with BPD and hopes to help others find proper diagnosis and treatment. He is proud to be a part of Emotions Matter’s efforts to de-stigmatize the condition and collaborate on solutions. - Sara Rosenberg is a Co-Chair of the Emotions Matter Board. She has lived experience with BPD and is passionate about raising awareness. Sara utilizes her experience of recovery to inspire and connect others with BPD. Professionally, Sara is a licensed financial advisor and works with her clients to secure their financial future. - Sharon Simon is a comic who has lived experience with BPD. Like many people living with BPD, anxiety, and depression, Sharon's upbringing was riddled with confusion. After decades of abusive relationships, misdiagnosis, over medication, and suicide attempts, Sharon is so grateful to be alive. She is passionate about sharing her tools in recovery with the world, laughter. Moderated By: - Paula Tusiani-Eng is Co-Founder and Director of Strategic Growth at Emotions Matter Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to educating, supporting, and advocating for those impacted by borderline personality disorder (BPD). In memory of her younger sister, Paula strives to help others survive and thrive with BPD as well as access to mental health care needed to achieve a meaningful recovery. Paula lives with her husband and four children in Garden City, New York.
