Nachtwacht

Wednesday, May 21 · 6:00 PM

Leiden Theater, Oude Vest 43, 2312 XS Leiden, Netherlands

Nachtwacht is a typical NITE performance: energetic, musical and current. After the successful show Salam, Jack Wouterse joined NITE again. Nachtwacht is a dark, extremely funny and deeply sad play that explores themes such as family, empowerment and authority through the lens of old age and dying. It’s a family tragedy in which everyone tries to break free from the part they have been assigned so that they can define their own role. grim but also meditative. Gripping but ultimately liberating. A weakening heartbeat slowly turns into an upward beat. A ritual journey to the end of the night, towards the first light of the new day. After Brave New World 2.0 (2019), The Underground (2022, nomination Louis D’or Sanne den Hartogh) and Yara’s Wedding (selected for Nederlands Theaterfestival 2023), Rik van den Bos, Guy Weizman and Roni Haver are once again creating a world in which the great themes of our time are examined in an unorthodox and fearless way, through modern dance, newly composed music and text theatre. “We see the world not as ‘it is, but as we are.” “And how can we preserve the stories of our ancestors and still make space for a new age. A better world.” Guy Weizman direction |  Roni Haver choreography  |  Ascon de Nijs stage stage design|  Luke Dean composer |  Maison The Faux costumes|  Maarten van Rossem lightdesign|  Friederike Schubert dramaturgy  |  David Dramm musical dramaturgy Cast: Jack Wouterse, Sarah Janneh, Bien De Moor, Sanne den Hartogh, Olaf Ait Tami, Nimuë Walraven, Bram van der Heijden, Angela Herenda, Igor Podsiadly, Jésula Toussaint Visser, Camilo Chapela, Sofiko Nachkebiya, Adam Peterson, singers from NKK NXT, musicians from Asko|Schönberg and percussionists from Hiiit.
