About

Open Wave Receiver workshop with Shortwave Collective: build your own simple radio receiver in this two-afternoon workshop. On day one, we will work with a basic set of materials: wire, clips, tent pegs, and chosen or found objects, to build what we’ve termed Open Wave-Receivers, a DIY radio receiver. Day one takes place in WORM Ubik. On day two, we’ll become co-researchers and experimenters, attaching our radios to metal structures as makeshift antennas and searching for signals, looking to listen for transmissions from near and far. Day two takes place at A Tale of A Tub. One ticket covers both days. To buy a ticket, go to the event page for Day 1 Or click here: https://worm.stager.co/web/tickets/111417785 We encourage you to bring / scavenge some scraps to customise your radio: – Something flat and non-conductive, around A5 size. – A tube (also non-conductive), the size and shape of a toilet paper tube. – Small pieces of metal or mineral. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. Our workshops have a feminist ethos and are designed as inclusive spaces to question and create together. Shortwave Collective is an international, feminist artist group, interested in creative uses of radio. We meet regularly to discuss feminist approaches to amateur radio and the radio spectrum as artistic material, sharing resources, considering DIY approaches and inclusive structures. This workshop is a collaboration between Radio WORM and A Tale of a Tub, in the spirit of the exhibition The Lips of History.
