The New Choir returns to the Paradijskerk for a show filled with indie-pop classics.

The choir from Rotterdam sings songs that reflect its generation and translates tracks from artists such as Billie Eilish, Froukje, Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens, and Eefje de Visser into captivating multi-voiced choir pieces without losing the soul of the songs.

In 2024, The New Choir already performed in a packed Paradijskerk in Rotterdam, collaborated in the studio with singer songwriter Roufaida for her new album, and sung in a sold-out Lotto Arena in Antwerp for Belgian hip-hop duo blackwave. together with Koen Wauters from Clouseau. In November ’24 a live version of [Elusive](http://bfan.link/elusive) was released by blackwave. ft. The New Choir.

The New Choir - Live at Paradijskerk

ĒTHĘR Ensemble is a musical and artistic project created by José Ángel Babiano in 2019 and made up of artists who met at Musikene, Donostia-San Sebastián. ĒTHĘR's artistic process encompasses interpretation, transcription and own creation, based on a delicate and careful mix between improvisation and composition as a creative engine, which makes his music have a great capacity for adaptation and invention, thus embracing all kinds of music, from Classical to Improvisation, Electronic, Black Metal, etc. All this endows ĒTHĘR with a unique sound and artistic identity, extensive aesthetic versatility and great musical sensitivity.

Among all the extensive and diverse production of ĒTHĘR, it is worth noting that their album '1 0 1', released and distributed by the prestigious Orpheus Classical label, was awarded by the Department of Culture, Education and Language Policy of the Basque Government. ĒTHĘRHEIM was awarded as best video clip of the year 2022 by Musika Bulegoak. It has participated in a variety of festivals in Spain. Some are Zarata Fest (experimental, metal), Jazzaldia Donostia (jazz), Aurrera Fest (classical), etc. As well as in numerous scenarios of the Basque territory and the rest of Spain.

Laia Escartin hosts ĒTHĘRHEIM

Weavers Gallery are Elsa, Marius and Bene (Vienna/Cologne/Essen).
With vocals, guitar and drums they combine poetic qualities in the
tradition of Bob Dylan with the musicality in the likes of Norah Jones
for an intimacy that seems to float in the air without a bass. 

Yet maybe the best description of their compositions would simply be a mild look at an Edward Hopper painting. 

Taken on a journey between comfort and doubt, their songs captivate the listener from the first verse right to the very last line. 
Their first EP 'A Few Forgotten Words' was released in April 2024.

Laia Escartin hosts: Weavers Gallery

'I Never Lie’ is the latest project of drummer and composer Agnese Valmaggia.

It takes inspiration from the artistic research she carried out during her master studies at Codarts, focused on the use of samples in the composing process. For two demanding years she analysed works by Steve Reich, JacobTV and Chassol’s ultrascore and made different kinds of experiments to incorporate triggers and pads into her set-up. She (happily) got lost into Max MSP, trying to find a handy way to launch and control samples, video fragments and stage lights with her drumming and she spent nights programming patches until her house almost turned into a strobo-discotheque (a very nerdy one). Her composing approach changed and developed, always keeping samples as a starting point for her musical ideas.

This project is the result of this whole exploration, a step-by-step journey into a bittersweet reality, struggling towards the most frightening and yet ephemeral thing ever: the truth.

We share with you music and poetry we make, intertwined through movement(s) and united through the resonant space of the Paradijskerk. This is a place where we step closer together. We listen for inspiration to speak out suddenly or for frequencies to shake us into action. 

We step forward courageously together as we get closer to the 50th Anniversary of International Women's Day - so much effort and solidarity brought us to where we stand now, despite many challenges that are still faced. We celebrate all waves and ways that bring about change, each wave is unique. Whether this is internally felt or out in the open, each one reverberates. 

With music, poetry and other magic we share the roots which bring us to where we are now.

Roots, Resonate!

**PLEASE NOTE: this workshop is spread over two days: 22 & 23 February**

Certified Resonanzlehre trainer and violist **Yanna Pelser** will guide this Resonance workshop-weekend, in which physical exercises are taught and practiced together. There is also room for individual playing sessions in the presence of the group. 

In two days we pay attention to: 
* Connecting body movement and sound quality through balance exercises 
* Awareness of the whole body and its musicality 
* Breaking free from disturbing tensions/blocks from learned postures 
* Playing/speaking without effort 
* Finding your natural expression in sound and movement 
* Enjoying a meaningful connection with the audience through resonance 
* Practicing effectively and with inspiration 
* Dealing with mental pressure (stage fright, exam/audition stress).

For whom? For musicians of all instruments, vocalists and public speakers/actors (students, professionals or advanced amateurs). You need no prior knowledge or experience in body methods.

As active participant you'll join with the physical exercises ánd get feedback from Yanna on your individual performance for the group (performing a piece or improvisation of your choice). This way you can directly apply the movement quality to your own performance. As passive participant you'll join with the physical exercises, but won't have the chance to perform, get feedback and try out the movement quality on your own performance. It is however very interesting to listen to others perform!

Sound-Body workshop for musicians and public speakers

Epoxy Quartet is a project led by Dutch pianist and composer Koen Gijsman. The ensemble provides space to four award-winning musicians who are all experienced improvisers and composers in their own right. Together they fuse into a powerful unity, just like the chemicals that produce epoxy. In their music, the ensemble investigates the overlap between free improvisation and contemporary jazz composition. While their dynamic interplay is inherited from the improvising Dutch 1960s avant-garde, the ensemble’s evocative and open sound brings to mind impressionists such as Ravel and Debussy.

ALEXANDER CHATER HOSTS: Epoxy Quartet - Recollection (album release tour)

Hailing from the vibrant cultural hub of Rotterdam, Breakfast Collective is a dynamic ensemble that defies categorisation with a repertoire of original compositions and bold arrangements of jazz standards by all members. Their improvisation and arrangements fuse elements of jazz, classical, and experimental music. Formed by Johnny Agisilaou (drums), Jurriaan De Kok (bass), and Luna Hallenga (violin), the group embodies a spirit of boundless curiosity... Moving with the energy of their recent performance at North Sea Jazz Round Town, the ensemble expands with the addition of **Christine Cornwell** (violin) and Sebastian Wrinq (guitar), enriching the ensemble with fresh perspectives and textures. To mark the new year, reinvention is central in Breakfast Collective's approach which seeks to break their own creative boundaries.They explore new and vibrant timbres, crafting music that celebrates their different perspectives and expressions. They invite listeners into their world of intricate harmonies, rhythmic complexity, and catchy melodies.

Breakfast Collective komt uit het bruisende culturele centrum van Rotterdam en is een dynamisch ensemble dat zich onttrekt aan categorisering met een repertoire van originele composities en gedurfde arrangementen van jazzstandards door alle leden. Hun improvisatie en arrangementen combineren elementen van jazz, klassieke en experimentele muziek. Breakfast Collective: Reinvention

When Covid-19 struck in March 2020, bandleader and composer Ruud Voesten used the
mandatory free time to delve into one of the world's most famous literary works from the Middle Ages: Dante Alighieri's Inferno. In this first part of the Divine Comedy, Dante explores his own humanity, his society, and his position in it by descending through the nine circles of hell. With Inferno as a guide and the lockdown as a catalyst, Ruud explored his own personal connection to the deadly sins. Reflecting on themes such as lust, anger, and betrayal brought forth a wide range of connections, motifs, and emotions, which he translated into music.

Building on the success of their Inferno-inspired album, Ambrosia is now poised to release their long-awaited follow-up album, based on the second part of Dante's Divine Comedy: Purgatorio. This new album, scheduled for release in late 2025, promises to be a moving musical journey through the seven terraces of Mount Purgatory.

The upcoming album showcases Ambrosia's evolution as a band, blending their signature contemporary jazz sound with elements from contemporary classical and electronic music. Voesten's compositions are characterized by complex rhythmic structures and harmonic progressions that embody the climb of Mount Purgatory.

Each composition corresponds to one of the seven deadly sins, thus reflecting the structure of Purgatorio. The music moves from dark, introspective pieces representing pride and envy to more uplifting, ethereal compositions symbolising the ascent to paradise. The band's improvisational talent is showcased in extended passages that give each musician the space to interpret the emotional landscape of Dante's poem.

In preparation of their recording dates Ambrosia will play a try out concert of the new material.

Toen Covid-19 in maart 2020 toesloeg, gebruikte bandleider en componist Ruud Voesten de verplichte vrije tijd om zich te verdiepen in een van 's werelds beroemdste
literaire werken uit de middeleeuwen: Dante Alighieri's Inferno. In dit eerste deel van de Goddelijke Komedie onderzoekt Dante zijn eigen menselijkheid, zijn samenleving en zijn positie daarin door af te dalen door de negen kringen van de hel. Met Inferno als gids en de lockdown als katalysator, onderzocht Ruud zijn eigen persoonlijke verbinding met de hoofdzonden. Het refecteren op thema's als lust, woede en verraad bracht een breed scala aan verbindingen, motieven en emoties met zich mee, die hij omzette in muziek.

Voortbouwend op het succes van hun door Inferno geïnspireerde album, staat Ambrosia nu op het punt hun langverwachte vervolgalbum uit te brengen, gebaseerd op het tweede deel van Dante's Goddelijke Komedie: Purgatorio. Dit nieuwe album, gepland voor release eind 2025, belooft een ontroerende muzikale reis te worden door de zeven terrassen van de Louteringsberg.

Het aankomende album toont de evolutie van Ambrosia als band, waarbij hun kenmerkende hedendaagse jazzsound wordt vermengd met elementen uit de
hedendaagse klassieke en elektronische muziek. Voesten's composities worden gekenmerkt door complexe ritmische structuren en harmonische progressies die de klim van de Louteringsberg belichamen. 

Elke compositie correspondeert met een van de zeven hoofdzonden, en weerspiegelt zo de structuur van Purgatorio. De muziek beweegt zich van donkere, introspectieve stukken die trots en afgunst vertegenwoordigen naar meer verheffende, etherische composities die de klim naar het paradijs symboliseren. Het improvisatietalent van de band komt tot uiting in uitgebreide passages die elke muzikant de ruimte geven om het emotionele landschap van Dante's gedicht te interpreteren.

In aanloop naar hun studio data speelt Ambrosia een try out concert met het nieuwe materiaal.

A Janitor’s Manifesto – album tour
Headline: Gunnar Gunnsteinsson is an artist and composer, living and working in Reykjavik. His work includes (sound) installations, film scoring and musical education.

A Janitor’s Manifesto, Gunnar’s second studio album, musically describes and fictionally revises a real time in Gunnar’s life when, next to his composition work, he was employed part-time as a janitor within an Amsterdam-based, communal, artist’s housing complex, in which he also lived. The album was recorded and produced in Amsterdam and Reykjavik between 2017 and 2021 and released by Brussels based Futura Resistenza.

With the frequencies of both electronic and acoustic instruments Geier is weaving a flying carpet that he invites you on to have a discussion about the bridges between selective and collective consciousness.

Het Batavierhuis is een onafhankelijke makerspace en broedplaats voor (jonge) ondernemende kunstenaars met als doel Rotterdams talent verder te laten ontwikkelen en het culturele (muziek)leven van Rotterdam te verrijken.

We laten zien dat Rotterdam haar artiesten serieus neemt en bereid is te investeren in talent door het bieden van zo gunstig mogelijke voorwaarden. Er is ruimte om te experimenteren en te inspireren, er is vrijheid en autonomie. We hebben de Rotterdamse mentaliteit en zijn zo divers als de stad zelf. In het Batavierhuis worden alle kleinere Rotterdamse muzieknetwerken samengesmolten tot één groot netwerk, wat jou als Batavier verder verrijkt. Elke Batavier heeft zijn of haar eigen expertise, waardoor veel kennis en kunde kan worden gedeeld, wat bijdraagt ​​aan de verdere ontwikkeling van de individuele Batavier. Samen vormen we een collectief, waar artistieke kruisbestuivingen spontaan kunnen ontstaan.
