Games, Workshops (Jamu and Botanical Textile Colouring), Bazaar, Music by JiwaJiwa, Larasati and Dangdut Banget, Food & Drinks by Cafe Warung Pas and Kece Coffee. On 17 August 2024, Serumpun Kolektif will host “Pesta Merdeka”, Indonesian Independence Day. Following a successful first edition in 2022, the collective invites everyone to celebrate independence and unity the “Indonesian Way” by immersing in a joyous and warm atmosphere through an array of traditional Indonesian games (with classics like “lomba makan kerupuk” or “joget rebutan kursi”, if you don’t know, look it up), heart warming food, bazaars, music performances and Karaoke. Indonesian independence day has always been known as “Pesta Rakyat”, a celebration from the people, for the people, with everyone coming together as one to have fun - regardless of their age and social background. Pesta Merdeka commits to bring that strong sense of people spirit. For Indonesians in the Netherlands, it’s more than just a celebration of our independence; it’s the time to reconnect with our roots and relive our traditions. For the international community, it’s an educational and fun journey into the heart of Indonesian culture. About Serumpun Kolektif Serumpun Kolektif is a collective of like-minded Indonesian diaspora in the Netherlands with a mission to share and celebrate our cultural heritage through the means of food, art and music. Serumpun (etymology: blood brother/sisterhood, based on ethno-cultural affinity results in a special bond or relationship. One ancestor, one bloodline, one root originated from the same mother). The collective was born out of a sense that there is a need to shed light on contemporary Indonesian culture that shapes our identity as a nation, that is often overshadowed by the colonial narrative. The collective strive to actively take part in completing that cultural landscape. -- Event source: https://www.sexyland.world/calendar/2024/08/17/?e=1042
