The lineup features DJs like °superstell° who mixes African beats and Portuguese batid, °LYLO b2b Female Woman° will connect the dancefloor through progressive grooves and funky beats in an ode to club culture, and °JASON° will close off the night with bouncy, up-tempo electro and infectious rhythms. Studio/Queer X FRXCTOSE presents: Pride fundraising party

On Monday June 16, Studio/K will host a fundraiser to support the Palestinian Film Festival Amsterdam, marking the end of the Retro Palestine screenings 🎥

Once a month, PFFA has been digging deep into their 10 year archive of 77 films, presenting a surprise “sneak retro” screening. For the last Retro Palestine event of the season, we’re joining forces with Studio/K and Culture Grub to raise money for PFFA’s 2025 edition, which will take place from October 9-12.

Culture Grub will be taking over Studio/K’s kitchen with delicious Palestinian plant-based food 🇵🇸

Get ready for two student organizations joining forces to bring you a whole day of music! Dormsessions consists of AUC students who give a platform to up and coming bands with their programming. This time not in a dorm, but here at Studio/K. Enjoy live music from bands in SKafé during the day, have some delicious festival food from our kitchen, and finish off in style at the afterparty with a DJ.

Throughout the day there will be bands playing in Skafé, then we’ll finish it off with a DJ set in SK4 from 00:00-01:00!

Studio/K and Stripclub Life Drawing are excited to combine forces again and welcome you back to Open+Bloot #3: Queering the Stripclub, where we dive further into the importance and hotness of queer-centred stripclubs, as well as interact with the art, politics and poetics of stripping. This event consists of two parts: a film screening of SHAKEDOWN (2018) and a life drawing workshop by Stripclub Life Drawing. Tickets can be purchased for both events separately, or for a lower combined rate when visiting both the screening and workshop. Discount tickets are meant for queer/BIPOC cuties, and people who are not able to afford the full price. We trust you to choose the option that suits your situation best <3

We start off at 14:00 with a screening of SHAKEDOWN (2018), a film on the joy, challenges, and realness of Black lesbian stripclubs. Shot in a style reminiscent of home videos, it dynamically centers queer Black expression and underground stripclub culture. At the same time, it shows the challenges that initiatives like Shakedown have dealt with and continue to face; as well as the need to keep these spaces alive. Before the screening, we will collectively read a text from Pleasure Activism by adrienne maree brown to set the tone. 

After the screening of SHAKEDOWN (2018), we will continue at 16:00 with a Stripclub Life Drawing session with performer Luna, who is a studio owner, sensuality coach, and passionate pole dancer in- and outside of nightlife.

About Stripclub Life Drawing:

Stripclub Life Drawing (https://www.instagram.com/stripclublifedrawing/) hosts life drawing events with strippers as models, who display poses in and around the pole for you to draw. You’ll get to learn about the stripclub and art of stripping, as well as drawing tips and prompts to focus on in your artwork. Stripping is an art, just like any other, which we think shouldn’t be left in the dark. In this workshop they want to show you the joy in their job and make you experience the stripclub in a slightly different way. No prior experience is needed to attend this workshop! Stripclub Life Drawing is a drawing workshop in which the art of stripping is central. We have some materials (oil pastels, pens, sketching paper), but please feel free to bring your own materials if you have any other preference that isn’t listed.

About the film:

SHAKEDOWN (2018) (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1794951/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_in_0_q_shakedown%25202018) is the story of Los Angeles’ black lesbian strip club scene and its genesis. Owned and operated by women, underground and illegal in nature, the club Shakedown is the darker, faster, younger iteration of this dance culture. The film is a window into this world. Shakedown emerged from a post-RIOTS, post-OJ, post-integration but still very racially divided Los Angeles. In this divided city Shakedown is an independent, all black and all female cash economy.

The film chronicles the explicit performances and personal relationships of the party’s dancers and organizers including Ronnie-Ron, Shakedown Productions’ creator and emcee; Mahogany, the legendary “mother” of the community; Egypt, their star performer; and Jazmine, the “Queen” of Shakedown.

Op 26 mei vertonen we de documentaire Wij Zijn het Archief (2024), met daarop aansluitend een veganistische maaltijd met een poëtische performance van M. Alberto. Kaartjes voor de film en de performances kosten €7,50 en zijn via de ticketknop te verkrijgen. Betalen voor het eten kan op de avond zelf – op basis van donatie – met een minimumbedrag van €5,50.

Over de film:
Wij Zijn het Archief (2024) neemt ons mee in het verborgen verleden van de zwarte queer gemeenschap in Nederland. Wat verbindt ons met de generaties die ons voorgingen, en wat kunnen we van elkaar leren? In deze film ontmoeten jonge queer mensen van kleur de vrouwen van Stichting Mil Colores die al sinds 2000 ontmoetingsplekken creeërt voor vrouwen met verschillende etnische achtergronden en sekusele voorkeuren. Een verhaal over identiteit, veerkracht en een geschiedenis die nog steeds in beweging is. De film is Nederlands gesproken met Engelse ondertiteling.

Over de performer:
Alberto performt en componeert muziek en woorden; en werkt als theatermaker, muzikant-poëet en artiest-onderzoeker aan beide zijden van de Atlantische Oceaan. Geboren op Curaçao en woonachtig in Nederland; M. reist over de wereld en werkt samen met organisers en andere artiesten, met een focus op zwarte, queer, anarchistische en sekswerker verzet. Op zoek naar het ontmantelen van koloniale structuren “by any means necessary” – maar vaak vanuit kunstenaarschap en radicale kwetsbaarheid.

Als klassiek getrainde componist, muzikale tech wizard, saxophoon virtuoos, prijswinnende poëet en antikapitalistische straat-essayist, weet hen al deze aspecten te combineren in een spirituele performancekunst, waarin de collectieve ervaring centraal staat en tijd relatief wordt. Hun performances worden beschreven als “lively and haunting, full of
energy and urgency” (WDR3).

en een live album (https://vehiclepassenger.bandcamp.com/album/live-in-amsterdam)

(met VEHICLE/PASSENGER) die door All About Jazz “one of the most honest and unique recordings of 2024” werd genoemd.

Wij Zijn Het Archief (2024) + volkskeuken en performance

Scherpe zinnen en rake woorden: tijdens SLAMsterdam! in /K zul je ze ongetwijfeld horen! Voor het tweede jaar op rij kun je in SK4 genieten van vijf zinderende poëzie-avonden: met de derde van vier voorrondes op 17 mei van 19:30 tot 22:30 uur. Kom jij kijken, luisteren en beoordelen wie naar de finale mag op 22 juni? Voor €7,50 per je er bij.

Tijdens deze zinderende poëzie-avond gaan acht woordkunstenaars de strijd tegen elkaar aan. Na drie minuten slammen is het aan het publiek om een winnaar aan te wijzen. De winnaar van de finale gaat naar het NK Poetry Slam, om daar de Amsterdamse eer te verdedigen tegenover de winnaars uit andere steden. Zelf meedoen? When Henry Cheung makes a plan to kill and dismember his parents, he decides to partner up with his friend Angus Tong. After the fact, the defence tries to make their case in court in a very strange manner. The Sparring Partner (2022), directed by Ho Cheuk Tin, is a sensational film based on an actual parricide in Hong Kong from 2013 and the baffling court case that followed.

Before the screening on June 10, Ron Ma – independent film programmer – will provide a small introduction to the film.
