Multidisciplinary Real Time Composition performance

The final performances of the two week Summer Course Amsterdam are held in the Ventilator Cinema theatre and bar. Both of the performances include all of the Summer Course Artists, together with the Amsterdam Artists, with a live light design by Erik van de Wijdeven.

A printed program will be given to the public with all of the names of the Summer Course Artists, and the Amsterdam Artists.

The spirit of the performers is to collaborate and enjoy unpredictability, and to welcome publics, with all their senses and histories and opinions, to engage. Expect playfulness, diversity, experimentation and risk.

Continuing in the thematic of 'Fu-rious Warriors 師傅有請' community screenings at Ventilator Cinema; showcasing a diverse selection of martial arts films, also known as kung fu movies. Each session highlights a film tied to a theme, presented by a member of the community. Tentative themes include cult classics, comedic kung fu, feminist and queer warriors, fight choreography, and more. We invite both longtime fans and newcomers to join our community screening and explore the cultural, artistic, and social impact of kung fu movies on a generation and beyond. We welcome martial artists based in the Netherlands, film buffs, and kindred spirits to come share their passion for the arts and immerse themselves in an action-packed movie night.

NOT YET is an Amsterdam based DJ. She mixes garage with very vocal house. She is spreading love with her energetic sets sometimes 4thebaddies. Her DJ life started playing music in numerous vintage stores where she worked. She wants to educate and is building a family: the Onda Collective. She likes to bring people together and make good events where friends come on stage and dance. Where they can try out new mixes, new styles and think outside the normal road of their character. She is a film maker graduated from Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam.

Pedro da Mata
Brazilian-born Pedro da Mata, hailing from Minas Gerais, blends the grooves of House, UK Garage, and Tech House with the raw energy of Baile Funk and rich Brazilian and Latin influences. Founder of the forward-thinking Inperspective Records (est. 1997), his sound is deeply influenced by labels like Good Looking and Reinforced records. The respected producer and DJ will be hosting Atlantis on June 28th.

'Under Reconstruction' is an 8-minute film piece by filmmaker Laury Hooghuis, based in Amsterdam. This film was featured in de Volkskrant last February, where it was described as: “Under Reconstruction has an ambiguous tension, both through the uncanny sounds […] and through the sure-handed direction and rhythmic editing. The film showcases a carefully constructed choreography of glances, movements and footsteps that follow each other in such a way that the viewer’s imagination naturally weaves an associative story (Janna Reinsma, de Volkskrant, Amsterdam)''. This short film gives a deep emotional experience, set in a building that is slowly being demolished. We follow three characters in their search for each other – or rather, for themselves. The film has an intriguing, atmospheric narrative, in which the experience of the characters is central. It is a cinematic unsettled world in which Hooghuis stimulates the imagination of the viewer and encourages them to consciously experience their own subconscious.

The OT301 was squatted ('99) and bought ('06) by Eerste Hulp bij Kunst. Public functions, housing and ateliers are combined for the arts and subculture.

When we, the Vereniging Eerste Hulp Bij Kunst (E.H.B.K.) first squatted the former film academy building in 1999, it was in very bad shape. The original plan of the local council, Stadsdeel Oud West, was to let it rot for a few years, then knock it down to build a bicycle path.
It was a really crazy idea. They budgeted it at something like 8 million euros, and everybody in the neighborhood was against it, particularly because theres a good bicycle path 50 meters down the road.
Naturally, it wasn‘t hard for us to come up with a better plan for the building. And after only one year of programming and presenting noncommercial art and music, the Project Management Bureau of Amsterdam named the OT301 an incubator for artists. Broedplaats Amsterdam, a new project started by the city to fund subcultural initiatives, granted us €770,000 for fire-safety repairs, and wind and water-resistant renovations.
With this support from the city, we went from squatters to legal renters, and were given a four year rental contract from Stadsdeel. This ensured the cultivation of an environment where artists could grow and experiment without commercial interference. It also enabled them to keep ticket prices for public events affordable, and provide low-cost in-house services, like printing, web-design, video production, and audio mastering, all aimed at artists and nonprofit groups.
After a couple of years of renting the option to buy the building came up. Although we had no money we started thinking about how we could get the money together to buy the building we all loved. The Triodos Cultuur fonds agreed to back us with a mortgage, so we had a very long internal meeting about wether or not we should buy the building as a collective. There was pros and cons and not everybody agreed on all the terms but we all realized that if we wouldn’t buy it someone else would and that might be the end of us. So we did it, we bought the building and since 2007 we have been the official owners of the OT301.
When changing from squatters to renters we had to change our internal structure and when we bought the building, we had to change some things again. We became an official building with licenses and all the rules that come with those licenses. The opposite of what we as former squatters were used to, but that’s the path we chose to take.
In the following years we slowly developed our democratic system and had our ups and downs. Meetings sometimes took more then 6 hours and decisions sometimes took weeks or months to take. Nonetheless we always have a core group of people that are willing to put in their time and effort to make it work.
At this moment we are still developing and shaping our organization and thoughts. We will probably always be a living organism that always allows itself to renew and reshape.
We hope to stay an inspiring building/organization that programs music, art, dance, theatre, film, workshops, vegan food and other experimental events for many more years.
