Picótero Don Alerio will initiate the system with his signature sound of exquisite soukous and champeta. The picó systems are a unique phenomenon unique to Colombian cities on the Caribbean coast. From the 1950s African music became incredibly popular in cities like Cartagena and Barranquilla. A unique sound system culture developed, with custom built sound systems with flashing, fluorescent hand painted artwork.
