About

Een duel tussen euphoniums Student Wind Orchestra Twente (SHOT) from Enschede will give a double concert together with Wind Orchestra Koningin Wilhelmina (HKW) from Wamel. HKW has existed since 1896 and has had several conductors since then. Currently, the orchestra is under the direction of Willem van Zee. The orchestra, like SHOT, competes with some regularity and often tries to play lesser known works in order to interest the listener. SHOT is the student orchestra of the University of Twente that gives annual performances in and around Twente and is conducted by Ronny Buurink. The orchestra travels abroad once every two years for a competition. In March, SHOT scored 91.5 points at the competition in Zutphen. Next summer, SHOT will participate in the Mideurope festival competition in Schladming, Austria. Before the intermission, HKW will take us on a musical journey with the Slawischer Tanz (Antonín Dvorak) and Balkan Dance (Etienne Crausaz). They will also perform the four-part musical piece Battle of Hearts (Bert Appermont), a piece full of drama, tension and emotion. We will also get to enjoy A Little Prayer (Evelyn Glennie) and Colours (Roger Cichy). After intermission, it will be SHOT's turn with two competition pieces in preparation for the concert tour this summer: El Jardin de Hera (José Suñer Oriola) and The Lost Castle (Otto M. Schwarz). In addition, SHOT will perform Dual (Andrew Pearce), which is a duel between euphoniums. We will also travel to the northern lands with Aurora Borealis (Rossano Galante) which translates the northern lights into music. We look forward to seeing you in the audience on June 9!
