Dutch singer/guitarist Loes van Schaijk ("Lucy") and Czech singer/fiddler Honza Bartošek (“Johnny”) are not your typical “girl-with-guitar, boy-with-fiddle duo.” Honza’s groovy fiddle playing, Loes’s impeccable phrasing, and their two powerful and flexible voices reveal progressive bluegrass, Irish and Scottish trad, Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, and Fleetwood Mac as their main influences—with a splash of jazz added to the mix.

Both Anne & Peter believe that music is the highway to the soul, they both think their cradle should have been in Ireland and they both are, according to the Celtic tree calendar, under the sign of the Ash-tree.

The main character of the Ash is to enchant and inspire people by music, hence the name. They hope to soften your hearts by the songs they will play and so try to make the world a better place.

Paul Niehaus IV is a versatile multi-instrumentalist from Saint Louis, Missouri.

He has performed with numerous local and national artists all over the country. He is also the owner/operator of Blue Lotus Studio, an audiophile-oriented recording studio that focuses on natural and hi-fidelity recording

Born and raised in the river city of Saint Louis, Paul Niehaus IV has been a freelance musician since he graduated from University in 2009 with his BA in music and a folklore minor. He is proficient in guitar, bass, keyboards, and drums…and has additional experience on harmonica, mandolin, french horn, trumpet, and saxophone.

He is known to be a versatile sideman and a talented and expressive multi-instrumentalist. he prides himself on being able to intuitively connect with whatever musicians he may be playing with no matter what the setting.

He loves traveling and touring and has played in over 45 us states, plus Mexico, Canada, and a 5-month stint on a cruise ship. His touring experience includes trips with artists such as John Nemeth, THE LUCKY LOSERS, Matt Hill, and Rockin’ Jake. Paul has served on the board of directors for the Saint Louis blues society since 2014, and has produced and recorded two celebrated compilation albums for the group, 15 in ’15 and 16 in ’16.

On this solo tour, he will bring you the best that Paul Niehaus IV has to offer. An intimate musical experience of one of St Louis finest musicians!

•This is a slow session
•It is for people to play together
•The starting repertoire (20 sets of different tune types and different keys)
•If it goes well with numbers we will continue the session once a month

A little bit about Fiachra:

Bio: Fiachra Meek, Uilleann piper, singer and Multi instrumentalist is a versatile music graduate from Co. Louth Dundalk. He's a fixture in Irish Dance and Music tours like The Great Irish Hooley and The Irish Folk Festival, having also collaborated with acts like Junior Brother & The Armagh Rhymers. Based in Amsterdam, Fiachra hosts folk sessions, teaches and performs with various group. His favourite and longest project is Alfi with his two friends Alannah Thornburgh and Ryan McCauley where they explore Irish, Appalachian, and folk traditions. Fiachra most notable performance to date was with The Pogues for a 40th-anniversary "Red Roses For Me” concert at Hackney Empire London, earning acclaim from the Guardian Newspaper.

This will be Fiachra's personal time that he usually uses to teach privately. Please respect one another and use this time wisely to give your full attention to whatever will be presented.

Boxin' The Vox is a Dutch folk sensation hailing from the Lowlands of Holland. The band features David Plasmeijer on banjo and lute, and Anne-Lotte Paymans on guitar. Their music draws inspiration from Irish folk legends such as Luka Bloom, Christy Moore, Mary Black, Sinéad O’Connor, The Dubliners, The Fureys, and The Pogues. Also 60/70 artists like Melanie, Simon & Garfunkel, Boudewijn de Groot and contemporary acts like The Cranberries, Dolores O’Riordan, Amy Macdonald and KT Tunstall.

Though desperation is heard on top of the songs blunt and honest lyrics, underneath there is a wave of confidence. Taking note of inspirational artists like Dylan and Prine, Nick’s songs are chock-full of imagery, and storytelling.

Set dancing is probably Ireland’s most popular form of traditional dance, and can be enjoyed all around the world.

Traditional Irish dancing is well known around the world thanks to the success of Riverdance and other shows featuring amazing displays of solo step dancing.

Quite different from step dancing is set dancing, which is the type of traditional social dancing done strictly for pleasure in rural communities in Ireland for a couple hundred years or more.

‘Sets’ came from quadrilles, the eighteenth and nineteenth century court dances of France which spread across Europe. The Irish learned the quadrilles from British landlords and soldiers and took them home to their cottages where they became the uniquely Irish sets when traditional music and steps were applied to them.

Four couples arrange themselves in a square to dance—the term ‘set’ refers both to the eight people in formation and to the dance itself. When the music begins they dance a variety of intricate moves and steps. One set can last from ten minutes to half an hour. The dancing is divided into separate sections called figures—when a figure is finished the music stops and the dancers remain in place waiting for it to resume. A set usually has from three to six figures, each one different but always danced in the same sequence. After the last figure the dancers thank one another and leave the floor.
