Inspired by the internet’s favorite “hear me out” comments, Hot Takes invites students to anonymously submit their most controversial opinions on film, television, and digital media - from “Marvel killed cinema” to “TikTok is the future of storytelling.”

During the event, selected Hot Takes will be read aloud, sparking fun, friendly, and thought-provoking discussions where everyone gets to share their perspective.

City Trip

In commemoration of the legendary David Lynch, Off-Screen will host a screening of Dune(1984). A now established cult classic, Lynch’s adaption of Dune received mixed reactions from die-hard fans of the novel when the film was first released, and to this day sparks numerous debates among film lovers.

The screening will be followed by a Zoom discussion with Paul M. Sammon, an American author and filmmaker, who was on set during the filming of Dune, and contributed for the making of the documentary The Sleeper Must Awaken: Making Dune through extensive commentary.

Movie Night Dune (1984)

Off-Screen returns with a new edition of Pub Talk in collaboration with VOX-POP! In this edition we will explore the relationship between Media and the Self with guest speakers Prof. Mark Deuze, Dr. Alice Fleerackers and Dr. Toni Pape⭐️!

Topics will include:

• The difference between self-presentation in real life and in online spaces – and the role of AI in this.

• Reality TV – how authentic are participants under the gaze of the camera?

• Living in the panopticon – how does human behavior change under constant surveillance📸?

The concept of the event is to be interactive - during the discussion, audience members will have time to ask questions and connect with our media faculty!
