SIB will have the honor of welcoming Sarah Van der Walt for a lecture on her groundbreaking work in the field of mental health in conflict areas.

Sarah van der Walt is a Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Policy Officer at HealthNet TPO, where she focuses on integrating mental health into peacebuilding and humanitarian responses. Her work emphasizes a systems-based approach that recognizes how political and social structures shape psychosocial wellbeing, particularly in conflict-affected settings. With a background in Conflict Transformation and Peace Studies - Sarah advocates for inclusive, context-sensitive interventions that address both individual and collective needs.

She has contributed to policy and program development in fragile contexts, promoting sustainable, locally grounded mental health systems. Her approach bridges practice, research, and advocacy to reframe mental health as a social justice and peacebuilding issue
