Beatriz is een jonge, energieke Latin Jazz-band met roots in Cuba, Spanje en Nederland. Vanuit Rotterdam brengen ze een frisse mix van traditionele Cubaanse stijlen zoals Son Montuno en Cha Cha-Cha, gecombineerd met pittige Latin Jazz.

De groep staat onder leiding van de Cubaanse pianiste Laura Beatriz Argudin en staat bekend om hun opzwepende liveshows – alsof je even in het hart van Havana belandt.  
Beatriz werkte samen met artiesten als Philip Lassiter, Sly5thAve, Peruchin en Rodney Barreto, en stond op grote festivals in Colombia zoals Barranquijazz, Pasto Jazz en Cali Jazz. In 2024 verscheen hun debuut-EP Momentos, waarmee ze hun unieke sound verder op de kaart zetten.

Roda de Santo is a musical group born in Lisbon in 2021, with the proposal of creating a circle that celebrates the “cantigas de terreiro”—songs performed in the ceremonial spaces of Afro-Brazilian religions such as Umbanda—combined with original compositions. The group stands out for the fusion of ancestral sounds of chanting, clapping, and drumming with electronic elements, resulting in a contemporary sound that revives and updates Afro-centric cultural roots.

The syncretism of Umbanda arises from the blending of Black Africa, Catholic Europe, and Indigenous forests, reflecting its essence as an art of healing and expressed through the “pontos”—chants and rhythms specific to each saint, Orixá, or entity. These sacred songs, in addition to guiding the ritual, convey faith and a deep connection between the divine and the human.

Formed by Alvaro Lancelloti, Karla da Silva, Sara Cabral, Juninho Ibituruna, and Bartolo—Brazilians from Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Minas Gerais—the group has performed on stages in Portugal, celebrating the culture and resistance of Afro-Brazilian religions in European territory.

The show, about 90 minutes long, features a repertoire based on the original songs of the EP Roda de Santo, as well as pieces specially selected for the occasion—the group has a tradition of updating its setlist according to the celebration days of the Orixás. At their debut in Amsterdam, at Teatro Munganga, they'll pay homage to Exu—the Orixá who is the guardian of communication and is celebrated on June 13.

Exu is revered in Afro-Brazilian religions for “opening paths” and mediating contact between the spiritual and material worlds, stimulating freedom of expression and creativity.  
Representing joy, communication, and transformation, his presence highlights the importance of valuing and sharing the many voices that make up Afro-Brazilian culture.

Virtuoos ud-speler en componist Mehmet Polat brengt uitmuntende jazzmusici samen in dit kwartet en smeedt een vernieuwend geluid met instrumenten uit verschillende tradities. Eigen composities worden gekleurd door gedurfde improvisaties en grooves.  Mehmet vindt een zekere vrijheid in het afwijken van eenvoudige maatsoorten naar complexe oneven maatsoorten. Dit levert verfrissende nieuwe muziek op die gelijkenissen vertoont met volksmuziek van over de hele wereld, maar dan met de vrijheid van eigentijdse jazz. Mehmet Polat, geboren in Turkije en wonend in Amsterdam, wordt internationaal gezien als dé vernieuwer van de ud, de Arabische luit. Zo vergrootde hij het bereik van het instrument door er twee bassnaren aan toe te voegen en ontwikkelde hij een speciale techniek voor de linkerhand. Met zijn wortels stevig in de Anatolische volksmuziek en de Ottomaans klassieke muziek, verkent Polat in zijn composities stijlen en tradities van over de hele wereld.

Antonio Villeroy, singersongwriter from Brasil interprets classics of Bossa Nova.

Considered a genius artist by musicologists and specialized journalists, João Gilberto revolutionized Brazilian music by creating the guitar beat and the way of singing that gave rise to Bossa Nova.

Through their interpretations and the music of composers such as Tom Jobim and Vinícius de Moares, this musical genre definitively projected Brazilian culture on a global scale.

In Tribute to João Gilberto Antonio presents some of the main songs that became known worldwide through the voice of the brilliant Bahian artist, such as Wave, Insensatez, Garota de Ipanema, Caminhos Cruzados and Retrato em Branco e Preto, among others.

In addition to Bossa Nova being one of his most important artistic influences, Antonio also has other emotional motivations for putting on a show dedicated to the memory of João Gilberto.

The album Gente is a journey into the rhythms and references that build Leo Middea as an artist and he presents GENTE to us like a feast. His fifth album is more mature, more danceable and more overwhelming.

Leo Middea, born on April 27, 1995 in Rio de Janeiro, is considered one of the current hopes of MPB, having traveled the world with his guitar, is currently based between Barcelona and Lisbon, where he recorded the albums "Vicentina (2020)" and "Beleza Isolar (2020)".

With his first album "Dois" (2014) in hand, Leo began his musical journey in Buenos Aires at the age of 18, performing around 23 concerts throughout Argentina in 2015. The following year, his second album "A Dança do Mundo" (2016) was featured in several best albums of the year selections and received positive reviews from the Brazilian and Portuguese press.

In 2023, he released "Gente", his fifth album, recorded between Amsterdam, Paris and Praia da Areia Branca (Portugal), produced by Breno Viricimo and with special guest appearances by singers Mallu Magalhães and Curandeira, and French trumpeter Béesau.

In 2022, he was invited by the Prime Minister of Portugal to celebrate the Bicentenary of Brazil's Independence. That same year, he opened for two concerts by the French artist 'Sheila' (the singer who sold the most records in France in the 60s and 70s) for 2,000 people at the Salle Pleyel, one of the main concert halls in Paris. 2023 was the most international year of her career, with performances in France, Spain, Italy, Holland, Switzerland, Turkey, Brazil and Cape Verde. The American singer Deborah Carter and the Mark Zandveld Trio bring a night full of romantic songs with Latin, Brazilian and Jazz rhythms.  
After her set she invites other vocalists to join her on stage.

Vocalist Deborah J. Carter was born in the U.S.A. and grew up in Hawaii and Japan. This Berklee graduate has travelled extensively, performing in jazz festivals, theaters, clubs, seminars, and radio and TV shows through Europe, Africa, and Asia with her trio or as a guest with various formations; from solo pianists to large orchestras.  
While on tour, she also teaches masterclasses and workshops all over the world. She also done extensive work as a 'jazz ambassador' for the American embassies overseas.

Through the years, Deborah has recorded several solo CD's as well as collaborating on a multitude of projects and recordings with other artists. She is also a reputed song lyricist.

Deborah Carter was formerly the professor of jazz vocals at the Musikene Institute in San Sebastian, Spain, and at the Institut für Musik der Hochschule Osnabrück .

IN 2023 she received the Meer Jazz award in the Netherlands.

Gumbo Night is een roemruchte, maandelijkse hommage aan de stad New Orleans, waar zowel Jazz, Rhythm & Blues en Funk hun wortels hebben liggen en deze combinatie geeft dus een heel divers programma. Voeg daarbij ook de cuisine, de drankjes en de ervaring is compleet.
Op deze avonden vonden New Orleans-aficionado's van het hele land elkaar op en naast het podium, werden bands opgericht en is menig artiest ontdekt. Door de jaren heen werkten vele musici mee, bijv. Kris Berry, My Baby, Michelle David, Daniel von Piekartz, Boyd Small e.v.a. De band van Kris Berry heeft elkaar bijv. letterlijk op het podium van Gumbo Night leren kennen!
Daarnaast worden originele singles uit deze muziekstad gedraaid door DJ Moonshine en zijn companen. Deze New Orleans-connoisseurs sporen ook iedere maand weer juweeltjes uit het rijke oeuvre van New Orleans-muziek op.
Naast een vaste kern proberen we iedere maand weer nieuwe artiesten met een band met New Orleans-muziek te verwelkomen, waardoor elke Gumbo Night weer anders en onvoorspelbaar is. Wat je in ieder geval van Gumbo Night kunt verwachten is een wild feest, met blues, brass en soul!

Teatro Munganga is the theater hall of Munganga: a multidisciplinary forum for artists and art lovers. This monumental building – the former horse tram depot on the Schinkelhavenstraat – is located a few meters from the entrance to the Vondelpark, on the Amstelveenseweg.
