On November 8th we welcome two trios to share their pivoting jams-turned-music to the stage of De Nieuwe Anita. Tara Clerkin Trio are Pat Benjamin, Sunny Joe Paradisos and Tara Clerkin, three musicians involved in a number of cult Bristol bands over the years before confidently settling down in triangle formation. They are inspired by and borrow from jazz, trip hop, electronica, psychedelia & minimalism, twirling the non-pretentious strands of these threads together into a trippy green winged-cloak, adorning Arthur Russell and dripping in blue jam. The bodies behind MARIA describe themselves as a “post-religious” band from the Netherlands and Czechia who make outsider pop music with vintage synths and drum machines. The vocals are handled by Katerina Gabriel-Konarovská, while Lyckle Willem Pier de Jong and Bjorn Barendse provide an itchy, intentionally B-grade backdrop drawing on post-punk, C86 and bedroom pop.
